limit question help!

theres a question:

lim x³ - 8
x --> 2 x-2

how do you change the top equation so that you can do the question...?

Use the factorisation

$a^3 - b^3 = (a-b)(a^2 + ab+b^2)$

So that it becomes:

$\lim_{x \to 2} \frac{x^3 - (2)^3}{x-2} = \lim_{x \to 2} \frac{(x-2)(x^2+2x+4)}{x-2} = \lim_{x \to 2} (x^2+2x+4) = 12$
