2013 Running Thread

Hi all!

After seeing on the gym thread some running talk, I decided to start a thread! I was a keen runner before Year 12, and cut back a bit because of study but am getting back into it!

I've run
2009 Great Melbourne Run (15 at 71mins)
2010 Run for the Kids (14.2 at 69mins)
2011 Bairnsdale Half Marathon (21.1 at 94mins)
2011 City to Sea (15 at 59mins)

My furthest run has been from Bairnsdale to Eagle Point and back distancing 33km and I did it in roughly 2h20mins IIRC.

This year I plan on doing the Run for the Kids, Eureka Skydeck run, and possibly the Melbourne Marathon depending how much training I can fit in to my uni schedule!

So that's basically all about me and my running!

Would love to hear from any other runners out there, or anyone starting to get into running about favourties runs, events, shoes and gear etc.

Happy Running!

Wow those are great times!

For now i'm trying to improve my jogging, endurance as opposed to speed is key for me atm. My goal eventually is to cover 3 km in 17 mins, and continue from that.

I did City2Sea too, and i've done City2Surf. I'll hopefully be doing City2Surf this year again too!

I used to do 5-7 KM but got busy with uni. Been kind of in and out of it for a few months D: .

It's so hard to get back into it as well.

I've never done any races, it feels kind of weird to pay someone (fair bit too) just so i can run, the jew inside me is dying.

What kind of shoes do you guys have?

Haha, can't agree with that more. You can just look up the running track for the race haha. Well, I guess with something like City2Surf (the biggest in the world) it's just the fun you get to experience: There are great views that the race covers, finishes on bondi, a lot of people cheering you on- I think it encourages a lot more competition.

What kind of shoes do you guys have?

I just got some lightweight nike shoes during my holiday

Oh awesome! How did you find City to Surf?

I watch it every year on TV and it just looks so crowded! I do love the organised events though, the sound of 1000's of heavy breaths and runners pounding the pavement!

Haha it's crazy. One team alone probably contains like 20 000 people. You have to even succumb to providing hand signals to people to indicate where you're going so you don't get bumped into! It takes about 10 mins to break away from the pack at the beginning.

Get down to sydney for that race when you can though!

I just got some lightweight nike shoes during my holiday

I got some ASICS Gel Kayano 17's.

Nike are little bitches and have stopped pretty much online store from shipping to Australia so we have to buy at their inflated Australian prices. Same with Addidas. So, went for the ASICS, they're actually pretty good though.

Where do you guys run? I usually go for the pavement around the neighbourhood but i hear its pretty bad for your knees. I'm no physicist or anything but i heard it has even less "spring" than asphalt.

i'm in the city  so I got a few running tracks nearby. I need to find more areas with hills though.

Hahahaha, I was training with my mate who was running the Melbourne Marathon that year, it's a lot easier to not stop when you're with someone!

As far as paying for events, I totally understand  what you are saying, I just love the atmosphere, it gives me some extra motivation, and running over the westgate with no cars is pretty amazing!

For shoes, I have New Balance MT10's for trail running.

Adidas Hagio's for road and track.

Vibram Five Finger Bikila's for leg strength sessions.

I also use a Suunto M5 HRM with a footpod for speed and distance. Anyone else have any gadgets?

Gotta start running soon. LOL. I can barely run 20 minutes without being exhausted!
