This is 1 of my earlier cover letters during my job hunting bak @ start of year (so quite basic, but a good guide).

I've written stuff in capital letters that u need 2 cut out/change 2 suit urself (coz obviously a cover letter is basically u communicating 2 a potential employer).

Generally, a cover letter includes:

Job applying 4
Y u'd b suited 2 it - both skills and personal attributes
Past exp
An 'opening' 4 further progression (I'll call u, plz contact me, feel free 2 email me, etc).

Cover letter should ALWAYS ALWAYS b written specifically 4 the job u're applying 4 and should NOT jst b copied and pasted chunks from ur resume.
I also believe that resumes should b 'tweaked' depending on the job as well.

Refer 2 this a few more 'bare bones' cover letters 2 help u get the general gist of wot u're sposed 2 b writing, or jst google 4 bout a bazillion results.


Umm... jst as a side note: I did all this in the space of bout 10 mins... if there's something particularly flawed jst let me know, but it's midnite so don't expect perfection ppl

Address their selection criteria. Associate with your CV where you can.

That point can't be stressed more.

for example:

'Needs to live locally and have own transport. Must be reliable and experienced in hospitality.'

One paragraph of how you live close by and own your own car and will be willing to work at any time.

One paragraph describing one of your past work experiences and how it benefits the employer in a 'sell-myself' way.

and of course the usual letter fluff at the beginning and the end.

etc etc.
