How to do a close reading?

What does it mean and how can I do this for both print novels and films? I find that when I re-read texts (such as right now) in preparation for Section A and B of the exams, I completely forget the finer details of the texts, which could be very helpful in the pressure-filled exam environment. I know Section A and B of the exams require a thorough knowledge of themes and such, and simply passively reading the text (or watching the film and taking it at face value) is not going to help me to understand, or help me to remember when the exam day comes and I have to write about the texts and films in limited time.
Listens to K-Pop (Twice, Red Velvet, MAMAMOO) and Christmas music all year round.
