It's easier to get into courses at ANU than at Melbourne, for example. The degrees are probably as prestigious as each other (maybe ANU is a little more prestigious?) but the entrance requirements are dramatically lower. For example, law (or combined law) requires a 95 ENTER.

How competitive is entry to the PhB Science program in regards to the ratio of applicants to available positions? The idea of an undergraduate degree with a research component appeals to me, but I don't really like my odds...  :(

There aren't many positions available (I'm sorry, I have no idea what the ratios are) but you should give it a go anyway. I honestly didn't think that I'd get into the PhB Arts but I did.

hi, do any of you know what the scholarship situation is like for ANU?
i don't think i'd be able to pull a 99.5+ so the national undergrad is probably out of reach?
does anyone know what else is out there?
(if i went i'd be doing arts/law or arts phb or arts (international relations))

If you're doing PhB then there is a very high chance that you'll get a PhB scholarship ($5000 p.a.), otherwise some colleges/halls may award scholarships and it's also worth googling the Hawker scholarship.

meh, i never went to it. i doubt it'd be particularly interesting anyway. in my yr12 i flew all the way up to canberra for the actual open day. was quite worth it for me, though admittedly i'd pretty much decided by that point that i was going to go to ANU...

I'm not planning to attend Open Day, either. So I hope it's good! (that is, if I even get in to want I want to do...)

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised at how pretty ANU is. That said, the colleges aren't nice old buildings like unimelb colleges are. My college was described in one if Kevin Rudd's biographies as something reminiscent of Eastern block architecture.

Ooh, I can get advice from you about colleges/halls. Know anything about Bruce? My first impression of Bruce is positive. There seems to be a lot more information (that I can find) about it on the ANU website than other halls/colleges...

Bruce is where i go. it's well, pretty incredibly awesome. eriny goes to burgmann, which is also decent, i suppose. look around in all the ANU threads for some posts about each of the colleges, they each have their own style. and feel free to ask anything in particular about college or any of that jazz.

I went to the melb. thing yesterday. In was pretty good. I got to talk to people from the faculties I'm interested in as well as about accomodation, work and exchanges etc.

I was thinking of going up to ANU sometime but not actually on open day. I figure that way it will be a lot more personal and I can have one on one tours, meet the staff etc.

Just curious, is it possible to do a PhB in music or not really? Also, I heard you can't do music with Arts unless it's musicology?
