It doesn't get any better in uni guys. The only way to overcome burning out is to find a strategy that works for you.
Interesting, I've heard some people saying things like this, and others saying that it becomes a lot less stressful in uni. I've certainly no desire to work as hard as this next year though. (At least in the first year.)
There's less pressure but if you care about your studies, you want to do well regardless. First year isn't too important in terms of your grades, but it is the best time to get some As on the transcript and to develop your study habits. You're paying good money for the subjects anyway through HECS so what's the point in neglecting studies.
In Uni, there is typically no spoon-feeding. There are no weekly reports. They don't tell you what to do besides the assessment. It is up to the student to stay on top of their game. In my faculty they have a policy for first year subjects - they don't upload the lecture handouts or powerpoints online. So if you miss a lecture you're screwed and it's really easy to fall behind quickly.
Many students dominate VCE and then find themselves in serious trouble in Uni. As I said before, find some strategies that you can implement to negate the effects of burn out. i.e. have days of rest, don't pseudostudy, don't try to bash things into memory, review past concepts weekly, etc.
