Ever considered living on campus?

Hey team! Keen to hear about anybody's experiences of living on campus. What was it like? What's your advice?

I lived (practically) on campus when I was on exchange in Malaysia, and it was definitely a different experience to living, well, off campus haha.

We teamed up with Trinity College recently to put together an article with some of the benefits of living on campus. If you're interested, you can read that here!

Lived on campus for 2 years. Having moved out of home it was nice to have a community of other people around me and to also have a responsible adult (the college head) to come to in case of emergencies/problems. Made it much easier to adjust to living out of home because I didn't have to worry about getting myself to and from uni, I could just walk for 5 mins and be at my class. I'm not a party person so I can't speak for that side of things but I've heard the socialising side is good.

That being said, now I'm a 3rd year I'm happy I'm not living on campus. I think it made me a bit of a lazier student and this way I had to be a lot more organised in getting to class and scheduling my day. I couldn't just go home and watch TV or have a nap in between classes anymore. Overall, definitely a good experience and I'd do it again. Would recommend!

Any preference out of the two setups?

Hmm, both had their pros and cons. I think I preferred the bigger house just because I had more people to talk to and it didn't really matter if I didn't really like some of my housemates. The social side of being able to sit and watch TV or just have a good chat in the evening was really nice and made sure I didn't just isolate myself if I was finding uni stressful. Also, I barely even saw or spoke to 2 of my housemates for the whole year because of how much they kept to themselves haha. I did enjoy the peace and quiet of the one housemate situation, though. I think if you get on well with them then it's an awesome living situation, but if you don't particularly like them or they're annoying it can be a bit challenging.
