Hey, I sat the MHS Year 10 entrance exam last year, and was offered a late offer! Let me help as the MHS and Nossal exam are practically same!
Maths: Last year, i found the maths harder than year 9 entrance! On top of having the year 9 curriculum under my belt, I also studied the year 10 course before the exam!
Numerical: I found easier than the year 9 exam. Basically patterns and logic
Reading: A lot of paragraphs and information. Always read the question first, then skim back to the writing to find the answer
Verbal: Didn't even study for this. Just did a lot of practice questions. Found this way harder than the year 9 exam
Two writing pieces: For creative, we were given, if I recall correctly, a quote and 2 pictures (not sure) and for analytical, something on drink driving. You can't really study for these, but instead try to complete a lot of practice essays and have them marked from your teacher. Feedback is critical for writing.
My results:
Maths: Superior
Reading: Superior
Creative: Superior
Numerical: Superior
Analytical: Above Average
Verbal: High Average
If you end up beating some of the competition, and receive and interview (Nossal, MHS and/or JMSS) feel free to PM me, as I'm willing to help!!
(PS. The exam is NOT and I repeat is NOT the main detriment for offers into MHS and I'm assuming it is the same for Nossal at year 10 and greater years. Try to have a lot of co-curricular achievements [ie. state level sport, leadership achievements etc.])
GOOD LUCK!
