why is it that australians possess the non-rhotic pronounciation?
for example HRT encourages back channelling and makes the other participant(s) feel inclusive in the conversation
so then why do we possess the non-rhotic pronounciation?

ALSO why assimilation and ellision is prevailant in the broad accent...
WHY ???
