How does the galvanic skin response measure consciousness/level of awareness.. does electrical conductivity of skin decrease in an ASC or increase?

If you guys could help explain it a bit more that would be great

thanks

Changes in the GSR are generally associated with levels of emotional awareness.

When someone sweats, the electrical resistance of their skin decreases. Since sweat is usually indicative of psychological or physiological arousal, a decrease in electrical resistance would indicate a higher level of emotional awareness. Emotional awareness usually decreases in an ASC, including alcohol-induced states, daydreaming, meditation, sleep, etc, so an increase in electrical resistance (less sweat) is generally associated with an ASC. On the other hand, a decrease in resistance (more sweat) would usually be associated with NWC.

Decrease in electrical resistance = Increase in electrical conductivity
