rote learning is not very effective actually. When you understand the underlying principles of a subject like legal, you are able to adapt to any question and become more flexible in terms of your answers. Rote learning will do nothing but give you direct answers to certain questions and that does not always work.
Avoid rote learning unless its very effective for you then... ya.

lol....
Rote learning works. There isn't much application needed of the theory in legal compared to other subjects.
Rote learning is especially important when it comes the longer questions where you'll need to add examples to support your points.

to add example you go to know why and how they relate to the question.

for example: r v whithorn (1983) regarding the utilization of judges ability in adversary system. If you don't know why the judge said what they did in that case, then you can't apply it appropriately when using it as an example for elements of the adversary system.

understanding > learning

tbh, legal is a very lote learnish subject. I agree with vce08 that their is very little application of what you learn. Most of the marks are just recalling info

Need to learn examples for the exam. Will they be really harsh if we don't include examples?

And Dusty, to get a 40+, you basically need strong A's throughout the year and on the exam, or borderline A+'s and A's throughout the year. But use Mao's predictor to be sure. :)

Dunno if they'll take marks off but using examples is a fine way to show off how much you know about the course.

You put in your grades, it gives you a study score! It's better than having everyone make pointless threads about 'predicting study score if I got xxx'. Enjoy. :)

doing prac exams isn't really only about leanring the content. in a subject like legal, the content is not the chllenge, but rather the time constraints.
