.
i was reading some melbourne guide and it said that the maximum enter for arts was gonna be 85 this year..
i dont know how they know that but it's what the brochure said!!
model is good for majoring in psych, not much else!
and melbourne is just so pretty!!

Really? I wouldn't of thought they couldn't just stipulate like that, as student numbers, quality of students etc needed to be taken into account.

During one of my daily extended procrastination sessions, I began looking at the 2009 handbook on the Melb Uni site, trying to find all the subjects I like. I seriously have no clue what to major in- I just want to do an array of courses really, not set ones in a certain discipline like psychology or european studies or whatevs. Didn't seem like any of the fields of study had enough cool courses to justify majoring in

yeah i read it a couple of times to make sure because it didn't seem as though they should be able to make such a call..
but brochures dont lie!!
ahh procrastination sessions, anything to avoid freaking study!!
one more exam to go and then i can not feel guilty about procrastinating!!
hurrah.

Out of curiosity, what careers do BA graduates obtain?

I seriously do not know. I know English teaching is one?

Journalism, historian, curator, etc etc. It's a very broad course.

BA can lead to a lot of places. But you need to have some idea of what you want to do with it, possibly do some postgrad stuff, otherwise it has the potential to be worthless.

Disclaimer: I think some arts subjects sound pretty awesome.

I've got Arts at UoM as first preference, and Arts at Monash as second. For my interests, they're very similar courses and I'd be happy with both, I'd just prefer Melbourne because it's more convenient for me to travel to. I want to major in Philosophy and do a diploma of French.

I think a diploma is the equivalent of a major in French ... so I suppose if you didn't have enough spaces in your arts degree or you wanted to major in something else you could do a diploma alongside it ... I'm not sure if that's allowed though

You can do a diploma of modern languages alongside another degree at some universities (Melbourne, for instance), but it takes a little longer to do both degrees.

Yeah, I'm planning to major in Philosophy, and with the Melbourne Model which required you to take 'breadth subjects', I'll do the diploma of languages instead of choosing subjects from a different discipline.

That's what I was told at the open day. So I hope that's correct!
