I'm not really happy with any of the definitions I've recently come across (don't ask) <-- long story.

Thank you for your help. It's warmly welcomed :)

Alright, (not looking at my textbook, hopefully I can answer this)

They are structures or mechanisms found in the Constitution that indirectly protect individual rights. An example is the bicameral structure of parliament.
Bam! No looking yay!

This is good (esp for not looking at your book :] ). I would also add that is serves to safeguard against the misuse of power by the Comm. parl . Also, maybe explicitly mentioning the structures (i.e representative gov, etc.).

Forgot about that part, thanks! I haven't revised thoroughly yet but I'll get to it!

Structural protections from the Cwlth Const have also been enforced by the HCA against the state parliaments :)

I usually say: "SPs are broad protections for the community as a whole against the abuse of government power, taken from structures and principles that underpin the Constitution as a whole rather than being explicitly provided for in one section."

Systems or mechanisms in the Commonwealth Constitution that indirectly work to protect the community, by preventing the abuse of power by the Commonwealth. For instance, representative government and the separation of powers are examples of structural protection  :)

The commonwealth constitution provides the indirect protection of rights of all Australians to prevent against the abuse of power by governments. This is achieved
through a number of mechanisms such as representative government, responsible government and separation of powers

Aight if you want a definition which you can be sure it will be what is expected. go to the 2012 legal studies past exam, last question, it will be there. anything to do with protection of rights, go to that last question lol

I've crammed this in throughout the year.

The means and mechanisms within the Commonwealth Constitution which indirectly protect human and democratic rights by acting as a system of checks and balances against the abuse of power.
