Help with subject selection

Hi everyone, i'm currently in year 10 and have upcoming subject selection soon after the holidays are over. I want to do so many subjects and can't decide what to do. I am looking into doing a bachelor of medicine or commerce course after year 12 and was wondering if any subjects in year 12 are prerequisites or will benefit me in those two courses.

The subjects that I definitely am doing are:
English, Methods, Chemistry and Bus Man

The ones that i want to do but am still not sure are:
Biology - I found biology really interesting in year 9 and have enjoyed it this year plus i've done really well on the tests.
Psychology - I just finished a semester of psychology and found it quite fun plus I also did well on the tests and exam
Accounting - I did work experience at an accounting firm and found it to be quite interesting and possibly something I want to do later
Economics - One of my mates is currently doing a bachelor of commerce and he said that doing economics in high school has really helped him in his first year
Specialist Maths - My maths tutor was telling me how good maths was to do especially if you are good at it since it scales so high plus i've always done well in maths tests and exams

All your help will be appreciated, thanks in advance :D

I guess you really need to ask yourself what course you want to get into more/what course seems more interesting to you. Commerce of Medicine?

If medicine -> Spesh & Bio
If commerce -> Spesh & Accounting or Economics

Definitely keep methods though since it tends to pop up alot for pre-requisites.

You said you're interested in commerce or medicine so i suggest you drop Bus Man even though you're doing 1/2. Apparently it's dry, content heavy and to get a high SS, you need near perfect SAC and exam marks. I suggest you pick economics next year, it'll help you in commerce like what your mate said. Like pi said, do spesh. As you said you have the ability to and with some hard work and effort, it'll be rewarding. If it's possible to do a 3/4 without 1/2 in your school, i'd suggest you do bio or psych next year as a 3/4. Those subjects are ones that many year 11's do. So finally, imo, you should do: English, Methods, Specialist Maths, Economics, Chemistry, Bio or Psych (3/4 in yr11). Hope this helped.

I disagree here - I honestly reckon it's better to try and be broad about things. Even people CURRENTLY in uni aren't sure they're in the right degree, how can we expect people in high school to pick between two degrees before they absolutely have to?

If you're unsure of what to pick, specialist would be good for either of the courses. Otherwise, though, you've got a very science heavy looking plan, and that's not going to help you decide. I suggest picking either economics or accounting to go with this - I'd say economics would be better (because it seems like that would come up more in a commerce degree than accounting would), but I'm not a commerce student so I wouldn't know. :P Don't worry, though - economics and accounting aren't pre-reqs for any commerce degree (AFAIK, might want to double check, but I'm pretty sure it's just methods), so it shouldn't matter which you pick.

Thanks for the answer im still not sure about doing spesh since I don't know how hard it actually is. I've always gotten good grades for maths but yr 7-10 is quite simple math and from what it looks like spesh is like a whole different level of maths. As for dropping bus man, how hard is doing a 3/4 without doing 1/2? so far i've been aceing all my bus man assignments and tests.

I always tell my students that Specialist is no harder than Methods, it is just different from Methods. So if you are comfortable with Methods and enjoy/don't mind maths, go for Specialist.
As for Bus Man, I came from a mediocre public school but there are lots of people getting 40+ without doing 1/2, so it's definitely something achievable (plus it seems like you have completed and aced unit 1).

Doing 3/4 without 1/2 as in which subject? I wouldn't do economics without 1/2, that's why I suggest you drop bus man then take up 1/2 Eco next year and you should be able to jump right into psychology 3/4 without 1/2. Units 1/2 is quite useless for psychology and many have done well without it. If you are planning to go down that path, over the end of year holidays, familiarise yourself with research methods and you'll be on the same level as other students. If you insist on busman, then continue it as a 3/4 next year but do Eco as well, because bus man doesnt really help with commerce.

Don't be goaded into picking a subject because it scales well or it may help you a little bit in your course. Do what interests you and what you think you will enjoy. Year 12 is hard enough as it is without having to study things that you hate.
