Doing two (or more) maths

Hi everyone, I was discussing this with some friends at school today and I’m keen to hear what opinions other people may have about this:

Currently, maths methods is seen as a ‘prerequisite’ subject one must do in order to also do specialist. No school would allow you to do spesh without also doing methods. Do you guys think this is fair? Should students be allowed to study spesh without methods?

Also what do you think of allowing people who do spesh to also do further? Do you think it’s unfair to students who only do further?

Side note: For the QCE, QCAA actually enforces the prerequisite/corequisite. I believe it is important there since the content of methods is really just assumed knowledge there; it physically requires you to know the content in methods before spesh is possible.

Can't speak for the VCE though.

Hey! This is the exact same situation at my school, without methods, spesh is not allowed.

Idk really, if it is fair or not fair as it depends on the student's ability to tackle spesh without methods. For students like yours truly, spesh would be hell without methods, since I had no prior knowledge of the concepts of mathematical methods. And trust me, the concepts that are taught for maths methods really goes along with spesh maths as some concepts may overlap. But that being said, I don't think it should be compulsory for people to do methods in order to specialist mathematics since there are some people out there who I feel like are capable of survivng a spesh class without the aid of methods (as a result of their knowledge and capability).
I am not sure about further maths though, because I don't really know anyone who did further, then spesh so soz about that  :-\
Hope that helps.
