So I had a turbinoplasty and septoplasty last Friday. I have experienced super large turbinates (
Image here if you dare) for at least three years now, apparently a deviated septum too, and then a severe dust mite allergy. So I finally got myself a surgery on Friday, I stayed overnight with some tampons on my nose. Bled continually for a few days. Had to sleep with my mouth open because my nose had tampons in it, so dribbled a whole lot too. Just to give you the imagery of my low points.
Are you with me?
I have to take antibiotics three times a day because there's a high infection risk and I'm not supposed to leave the house for 14 days (although I misunderstood my doctor so I only got ten days off work oops). I take pandeine forte three times a day as well otherwise it feels like my face has had a basketball thrown at it for hours at a time. You know that stingy, tingly, painful feeling? Yeah.
But, friends, the best part: my nasal douching.
If you've never douched your nose before then perhaps you've never properly experienced joy. I boil some water, wait for it to become luke warm, put some little solution in it that is basically just salt, and then shake it all up and I'm ready to go.
I lean over the basin and keep my mouth open, insert the nozzle (I tried to spell that four times) into my nostril and breathe in and out of my mouth as I squeeze the essence of the douche into my nostril. It feels a little tingly, but you've got to keep breathing. It pushes through the nostril to the very back, and then it starts to trickle out the OTHER nostril, dragging all kinds of debris with it. Some of the debris is mucus, sometimes blood (either in liquid or solid form), a little bit of my stitches came out this morning...you understand. I'm baffled at how much is stored up my nostrils post-operation! I can't wait to continue this for weeks to come to see what else I can extract when I'm back to health.
It feels good. You can feel the moment the warm liquid starts to break through the debris at the very back of the nose and it kind of tugs it down in a satisfying stream and then my mouth and eyes are wide open looking at the basin, so I can see the debris as it spills out. Oh god. Talk. about. satisfying.
So this morning I gave it a bit of a gentle blow as I did it, and it really pulled out all kinds of blockages. I can't wait to douche again tonight <3
My doctor says I should do this for the rest of my life because it stops you from getting sick. I'm down for this.
