That really sucks

I applied for uni-math at Monash this year just to find out that I wasn't accepted because I didn't do methods in year 11....!
Where is this heading to? First they lower the max increment and this... whats next 'you have to have an iq above 130?'
I am very capable at maths and like all people who are passionate at math should deserve to have a shot!

Prerequisites are prerequisites. If you do not have them, you do not have them. C'est la vie.

Tertiary institutions change their requirements for courses a fair bit. If they wanted to change it, there was probably reason; maybe they found that students lacking the Unit 1 and 2 sequences lacked the background or skills required. I am not sure. You would have to contact Monash and make an inquiry regarding the changes.

I dropped mathematics after Year 11. You can have my Unit 1 and 2 sequences?  8)

Yeah I'm pretty sure you have to either accelerate 3/4 methods or be doing specialist 3/4 whilst doing uni maths.

If your school does not allow you to do Methods 3&4 in Year 11 (my school and I believe MHS does this) that must really suck. :/

no, you're allowed to be doing spesh & methods at the same time, I enrolled for MUEP maths for 2011 and I did Methods 3/4 and Spesh 3/4 in 2011 (my Year 12 year) and they (as well as my school) approved it, I just decided to back out because I didn't want to drop a 3/4 subject and my school essentially was pressuring me to drop either MUEP Maths or a 3/4 subject

Yeh, unfortunately Monash does not appreciate every students passion for maths, they are more concerned about their students having done methods previously.

hmmm, I think I've managed to gather what's been happening! last year, monash allowed students who hadn't done Methods 3/4 to enroll, they've changed it for this yer, which is unfair because 2012 students really had no prior warning. sorry I was kinda lost before, I'd only realized they changed it this year

Yeah. It is extremely sad, but I am trying for Melb-uni right now; even though it is way pass the dead line. Hopefully they approve.

I'm currently in Year 11 doing 3/4 Methods, and I have to say that this is pretty bullshit. A lot of kids in my Methods class last year should not have been there, a couple of them are now repeating 1/2 Methods and some did not perform that well. (I hate to sound like an ass, really) But of course not everyone chooses Methods 1/2 in Year 10, and obviously there are dozens of students who are passionate and excel in mathematics but may have chosen a different subject to do first. Year 11 completion of Methods is not an accurate reflection on ones mathematical ability or passion, and ESPECIALLY should not be a requirement to enrol in MUEP.

Thankfully however, despite being unaware of this new requirement, I'm still in the clear to enrol for MUEP as I planned so I guess I dodged a bullet.
