HELP! THEATRE QUESTION?!?!

Hi Theatre People

I have chosen to do lighting as my stagecraft element for my classes production. The play that we are doing is "The Caucasian Chalk circle," by Brecht. Brecht has always kept his lighting bright and the same throughout the whole play, not letting it contribute to mood. I was wondering if i could change that? I don't want it to be just boring with one light, and i do want to contribute to the mood. Can i do that?
