What would you tell someone if they have better things to do in the holidays than doing practice exams? I'm finding it difficult to understand the logic  :-\ A student I tutor has given up and believes that there are better things to do than study in the next 4-5 weeks!!

Do your best to convince them otherwise so you've fulfilled your responsibilities then leave them to make whatever silly decision they please IMO. What else can you do?
✌️just do what makes you happy ✌️

does your student have a clear ATAR in mind? you could even show them an atar calculator verison of their study scores / atar if they don't study by jointing in average scores and tell them if they want to do better, they're going to HAVE to study.
using their ATAR goal against them to get them motivated might work.
