2015 Australian Maths Competition

Its been a few days since the competition and wondering whether anyone took the time out of class to undertake the AMC.
I did the senior paper and needless to say found it quite challenging as it always is.
Purposely I spent the majority of my time on the multiple choice questions.
How did you all go?
A question for previous students not that I'm dwelling on the paper just curious if anyone would have a estimate for what  cut-off would be for a HD(in points) for year 11 and 12 in the Senior Competition. My understanding that the percentage who get a HD increases from the 2% in previous years to 5%.

My understanding that the percentage who get a HD increases from the 2% in previous years to 5%.

The increase from 2% to 5% is generally offset by the lack of students taking the Senior paper in contrast to Junior and Intermediate.

However, last year I got a HD in Year 11 with 87/135, although some friends did get HDs with scores as low as 71/135.
The prize cutoff was something comparable to 89-90, although that's quite a high cutoff in comparison with most years, because last year was significantly more manageable than this year (i was confidently able to answer 23/25 of the first 25, in comparison with just 20-21/25 this year). I hope my Q26 was right and that my guesses go well, even though the proposed solution was 224, which is disappointing (but justifiable).

All in all, i went pretty miserably, but so did most of the top students at my school.
Out of curiosity, did anyone get Q30? Apparently it's 62.

My predictions for this years cutoffs:

HD: 65/135
Prize: 80-85/135

I found it really tough. My strategy was pretty much just to get as many (I'm hoping at least 22) of the first 25 correct as possible. Didn't even attempt the last five - I just guessed 60 for them all LOL  :-\
Would 65/135 make the HD cut for year 9?

Don't think so.

Beaten by pi, but it's more like 70/135 for Intermediate most years, if it's an easy year (which i don't think so), it'd be ~75.

That being said, 70 is just the first 20 all correct, so it's definitely achievable.

Thanks for the insight! I had a glance at Q30 didn't even know where to start  ;) Of the first 25 questions I was confident of about 18 of them and with a few lucky guesses should scrape a HD. Does anyone have any answers for questions 21-25?

Lol this year was ridiculous.

Q25 would be like Q28-30 most years, except 26-30 needs an integer solution so they couldn't do it.

Is that legal?
If so, I can upload the intermediate paper.
P.S. Isn't the year 11 paper the same as the year 12 paper?

It's been a little while since I had a school to ask  ;D

Anyway everyone who's going to do this year's comp must surely have done it by now, so I can't see any serious problem with someone uploading copies of the paper(s) if available.

Yep, I've seen that site.

A bit of googling also finds a couple of other repositories:

http://files.chiuchang.org.tw:8080/MyWeb/download/docu/AMC/
(Taiwanese site, so it takes some random clicking to find the English versions of the paper)

http://math-bg.com/%D1%81%D1%8A%D1%81%D1%82%D0%B5%D0%B7%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B8%D1%8F-%D0%B8-%D0%BE%D0%BB%D0%B8%D0%BC%D0%BF%D0%B8%D0%B0%D0%B4%D0%B8/%D0%B0%D0%B2%D1%81%D1%82%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%BB%D0%B8%D0%B9%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%BE-%D0%BA%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B3%D1%83%D1%80%D1%83/
(Bulgarian site with English papers, mostly the same papers as at Eltham but also primary division ones)

Melbourne Uni also has most but not all of the solutions and statistics books for past years in its Giblin Eunson library

For my school senior cohort it was compulsory so a lot of people probably didn't try.
I myself tried it and yea, it was pretty tough. We did the non-calc senior papers and I knew what I was doing until half-way through, then started getting vague to the point of using a process of elimination. Had no Idea about the last 5 so yea, did some very vague processing and guesstimate. I'm not the smartest nad brightest so I'm probably going for a credit. Pretty sad that I had a blank about forgetting how to multiply large numbers though. T__T
