What to do after completing unit 3/4 subjects

Hi, as I am completing a couple of unit 3/4 subjects in year 11, I have to do extension studies in my actual year 12. Just wondering how many extension studies I can do and what range of studies can I do? Thank you

Your only "supposed" to do 1. A max of 1 will contribute to your ATAR but some people have done something like 3 or 4 (very rare cases). Even 2 being extraordinary. 4 being the actual university load. Check each uni's website for the subjects they offer they all don't offer the same subjects. IIRC UoM offers the widest range.

Hmm it's not forced upon you i.e if you do 3/4 Biology in year 11 you don't have to do extension biology.

Your highest score will be in your bottom 2 (given it beats out all your other vce subjects). It's just that 1 of them will be completely useless ATAR wise and will have no contribution to your ATAR if you do 2 extension studies.

No extension studies is the most common scenario if you have 6 VCE subjects in won't impact your ATAR too badly but if you did only 5 VCE subjects your missing out on upto 5 aggregate points. Given that your completing multiple subjects in yr 11 you probably shouldn't worry about not having enough subjects though.

Ok, slightly confused... I am planning on doing English 3/4, specialist 3/4 and Japanese 3/4 in year 12 and complete physics 3/4, methods 3/4 and chemistry 3/4 in year 11. By doing a possible 3 extension studies, will that knock out by bottom three subjects? Or, does it add onto my final ATAR?
Alternatively, would it be better to complete another couple of 3/4 subject in actual year 12? How worth it is it to do extension studies?

There are four subjects which can contribute 100%, and two that can contribute 10%. Your extension subjects can only be 10% subject, so only two of the extension subjects will be counted, provided your extension scores beat the lowest two of your 3/4 subjects. Remember that the highest score is always taken.

Note that this means only six subjects count towards your ATAR. Honestly, I think it'd be best to only do six subjects (all 3/4, or one extension) in order to maximise how much time can be put into each subject.
