What are the benefits of doing Monash extension?
By doing a subject at Monash is there a guarantee you will get into Monash once you complete year 12?
Is completing the extension subject as time consuming as a VCE 3/4 subject? Eg would the workload for extension bio be the same as 3/4 bio?
Thanks
Benefits will differ student to student but this is what I thought was good:
- Made the transition to University easier
- Increment to your ATAR
- Friends
- Generally easier to score in e.g. 4.5/5.0s in most units are easier than a 45-50 SS
- No SACs (you don't have to think about ranking)
- I can use the units I did in highschool towards my degree at university
Doing an extension subject doesn't grantee a university place though.
I will say that it is less time consuming than a VCE subject; I did MUEP Chemistry and it really wasn't too much of a workload. It helps that they didn't make us go to tutorials (although we still had to learn the content in our own time) and we had our practicals during the holidays (we would do 2 weeks of practicals in a day). However, the concepts are probably a little more difficult.
If you have done 3/4 biology I would think the workload is less (given you still remember the content) and those units will usually go through anything from highschool again since it is a first year unit.
