I would've thought since these people seem really good at languages (well, you'd probably have to be to get that kind of score in Latin), that they'd get a better score at English lol. Nevertheless, still impressive. :)

Does Latin help with English Language? Is there anyone here who has taken both?

^ getting a 49 or 50 is pointless though, you get pretty much the same score with ~40 hah.

hmm i flicked through another part of the latin course, and have no idea what this 'scanning' and 'using the meter' means, i searched google but it looks confusing >_>

It's basically poetic rhythm, much of Latin literature is written in a type of rhythm (like long-short-short-long-short-short etc.)

Yes, englang contains metalanguage like the parts of speech, different forms of verbs, and so on. Which is all learnt in LOTES specially such a grammatically important one like Latin.
My englang teacher told me she couldn't learn Spanish in high school and after she studied linguistics she already knew so much about English that it was much easier to learn Spanish with that.
So yep, it's helpful to a small extent.

So do you think not studying Latin will disadvantage me in English Language? It is possible to do really well in English Language without having done Latin isn't it?

Yeah, there seem to be not many people studying Latin and they tend to be from the same few schools, looking at the fact that there are only like 10-15 people a year who get 40+ which is rather pathetic. How many people take Latin a year on average?

Well, the straight line above a syllable means a long sound, while the bent one means a short sound
Vertical lines in the text indicate what are called 'feet', they are groups of syllables, usually "long-short-short" or "long-long" :)

So 40+ SS means around top 8% = 14.4 people I believe. That sounds about right. Wow, that's a tiny cohort! I think there do exist subjects with like only 1 person with a 40+ SS though. Imagine if there was a subject with 1 person enrolled in it - it would be rather hard to calculate their study score relative to others lol!

hmmm i seeeee, sounds strange but ok.

maybe i'll do latin next year LOL. the language seems interesting to learn..
... i called up and asked about latin via distance and they said 'when did you do 1/2?' .. i panicked 'oh two years ago.. oh btw, what if hypothetically someone wanted to do it without 1/2?'
him-'not possibly, but anyway back to your question.'
and then asked me questions about my grades in 1/2 -___- and took down my name, so pretty sure lying is not the best thing to do ever.
 silly adrenaline's 'fight' response.

Yeah, I wanted to attempt Latin, but my old school didn't offer it and apparently year 9 was too late to start. I also had to discontinue French because I had already learnt 2 years of solid French and my current school only starts French in year 9. Oh well, at least that makes subject selection quite a bit easier... :) None of my secondary schools offered German (which I studied in primary school). Hence, the only LOTE I ended up with is Chinese.

Lol, we start languages in year 7, but in Year 9, I decided I wanted a change, so I pestered the school to let me join Latin. I joined midway through Year 9, and spent about four months or so catching up on all the work in Years 7 and 8. It's loads of fun and I definitely don't regret the extra work :)
