Dropping an Enhancement Study

Hey guys

Just started MUEP for maths and I'm really finding it hard. Considering the lack of time I have because of my VCE subjects, I am really thinking about dropping it.
The money side is also quite significant as I do not want to spend $900, fail and end up with absolutely nothing. Do you guys think it would be worth sticking it out for the ATAR increment and the benefits it has in getting into Monash?
or would it better just to drop it and focus on my other subjects?

Any advice would be helpful

Extension programs are beneficial because they let you skip a couple of first year uni subjects and are interesting. They really have fark all bearing on your final VCE score.

If you're doing it for either of the first 2 reasons, keep going with it. If you're doing it for the score, drop it.

I wouldn't advise doing it for the increment. Do one if you want to do it.

If you believe you are going to fail in it, then drop it. You should still be able to get into monash comfortably if you do really well in your ATAR anyway, so do what is going to bring you most benefit.

If you drop out before March 31st, you don't have to pay
so you don't lose $900 after all :D

What course are you planning on doing?

For eng or science it is very helpful, as you have a base of some uni maths before coming in. So when you do subjects that have a mathematics component you'll be ahead of what they expect mathematically, so it should be easier. Plus, you'll get to skip first year maths. Plus you'll get full credit for both subjects, so you can take a lighter load one semester or take additional electives etc.

If you like maths, do it. You should be able to do reasonably well. And I think everyone will be having a hard time with the course change so don't worry. Also, as the year/semester progresses you should become more confident with the material. I remember at the start of the year I was totally lost, but I ended up getting highest achiever.

It's unreal the amount of tinkering it lets you do with your course plan. I've used UMEP to get through so many loopholes at Melbourne (and am still using it).

DONT DROP IT!..... i thought it was hard too at the start... and.... it continued to get harder, however! the exam every year for both semester is like 75% the same every year (same questions with slightly different numberss) so what i suggest you do is do the last 3 exam papers (with answers/working out) bring it to the exam (its open book) and your set...

To be honest i didnt learn anything from uni maths.. (learned how to cram for uni exams?) but yea i didnt even turn up to half the classes and i crammed 1 week before exams (got 1 d and 1 hd) xD

Not sure what your exams are like, but I know for MUEP Chem our exams are basically the same each year...
2010: Business Management [47]
2011: English [44]   |   Chemistry [45]  |   Methods [44]   |   Specialist [42]   |   MUEP Chemistry [5.0]   |   ATAR: 99.60
UMAT: 69 | 56 | 82 | = [69 / 98th Percentile]
2012: MBBS I @ Monash
