University maths

I apologise in advance for ignorance on this subject...

I really enjoy maths and recently I've been thinking about studying it at uni (as a major or something). Could someone please explain possible courses? Or how it works? And how are the career prospects?

Also, do you have to be a naturally intelligent? Although I'm considerably strong at maths and I enjoy it a lot, I'm not someone who is a mathematical genius. Would this hinder my future in maths?

Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated!!

 Have a look at this http://www.monash.edu.au/pubs/handbooks/aos/mathematics/index.html if you are interested in units that you could do as part of a maths major.

 You definitely do not need to be a genius to do uni maths. As long as you have an aptitude for, and are interested in, mathematics then you will be fine.

 In terms of career prospects, I imagine there would be public service jobs (such at the Australian Bureau of Statistics) and private sector opportunities. Maths and statistics are pretty versatile and applicable fields.

 P.S. Try to get at least a 30 in Spealtist, because it will let you skip an introductory unit.

RMIT is offering an extension program (now alongside Monash/Melbourne and Deakin??). I did UMEP Maths (prepping for the Exam on Friday LOL) and it's very very interesting (we studied proof and number, vectors (not kindergarten vector stuff like in Specialist, but we started treating functions as vectors and other weird things, multivariable calculus, etc.)
Possibly UMEP may still technically be open for applications (I registered in January this year, when *official* applications were in October or something), but if UMEP is full then perhaps RMIT could be a good alternative. It *should* credit at other institutions e.g. UOM or Monash, but you'll need to check that.

Hey! I am also considering a major in maths because its the only thing I feel comfortable in. From my recent conversation with staff members in the Maths and Stats Department at Melbourne Uni, they've told me that job prospects are set to grow for those majoring in Maths. The major is very versatile and thus applicable in many fields such as medicine and finance.

Of course having natural ability would be great but as long as you're motivated to do maths and you relatively enjoy it, you should be able to do well, regardless!
