Does anyone work or has worked at Kmart? Just wanna know how long are typical shifts for casual workers? And is the pay the same for whatever you do as in from merchandising, check-outs or customer service are they paid the same??

I've worked one of the big supermarket chains, where shifts were either 3 or 4 hours (i.e. not long enough for a break). I'm assuming they'll be similar at Kmart.

I assume pay would be the same (at said supermarket, freezer workers got ever so slightly more, but there's no freezer at Kmart...)

Depends on the store.

I think you're more or less guaranteed a minimum of 3 hours, and a maximum of 10 hours.

I've worked at Kmart for about a year. I'm not sure if it's the same at all stores, but the shortest shifts we have are 3.5 hours, with the average for a casual being 4 or 5 hours. The pay is reasonable and they are fairly flexible around study/family/holidays. I "think" that the pay is the same for all casual workers, except for the photolab/pixiephoto employees. The biggest plus is the open hours. They are open until 9 or 10 pm on weekdays and 6 or 7 on weekends, which means that you can start shifts later in the day and have the morning and afternoon off. Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know.

Here are the wages for casuals:
Retail assistant (18yo):
Mon-Sat: $13.27
Sun: $18.80
Public Holiday: $27.65

Minilab Operator (18yo):
Mon - Sat: $13.94
Sun: $19.74
Public Holiday: $29.03

There are also special rates for extended hours etc...
