study score of 40

I'm a year 11 student doing 3/4 biology. I got an A for the VCAA midyear exam. do you guys reckon I can still get over 40 with this result? I mean, im happy with my result, but is it enough to crack 40? My SAC marks are alright, it's just i go to a private school and they write really hard SACS. my sac average is about a 20/25. Anyway, if i got another A for the end of year exam, does that translate into a study score of 40?

depends how high ur A is in the end of year and mid exam. if u say that the sacs are 'hard', then it must get scaled with ur exam results.

hahaha im in the exact same boat as you, right down to the 20/25 average.
i'm pretty sure 40 is achievable. especially if you get an A+ in the end year exam.
good luck!

Never give up, and you will succeed! That 40 is well within your reach.

It is absolutely possible. Although in general people who gun their SACs will be the ones who do better in the exam, that isn't necessarily true all the time..I know of instances where it has happened. Sure, ranking/SACs are important, but exams are ultimately decisive...to quote something coblin once said, the exam(s) is the anchor which drags the SACs around :)

The problem I have is that one teacher is marking way more harsher than other teachers. By way harsher I mean small mistakes can cost grades while other teachers (this is from fact) just tick paragraphs and seem to be giving full marks. All our SACs are prac reports complete with analyses, discussion, tables graphs etc. so there are lots of places for small mistakes to be made here and there and there's a lot of writing to be done. But interestingly enough (and entirely expectedly bcoz the harsh teacher is a better bio teacher) the class which is getting lower marks on SACs had almost triple the A+s of the other classes. Does this mean our class's A+s will go to the benefit of those other people who did better on the SACs because of easier marking.

So altho you would generally expect people who gun SACs to be the ones to do better in the exam. What if the people gun the SACs but don't get the high marks they are meant to get? Does this mean those students with better teachers but harsher marking will have to struggle more to maximize their study score.

that would be a reasonable assumption

Be nice to your teacher and hope they are nice to you lol

Sometimes teachers can have subconcious biases towards certain students because they think that those are the students that 'should' get a certain mark.

If you hand in all your homework on time and contribute to class discussion etc. you will probably develop a subconcious bias in your teacher.

Hehe... I have that with my English teacher, even though I wish I was better at English. I wrote this essay which was of very poor standard, but I still got an A for it. I think a normal student would have obtained a C. I can say I have a teacher bias :)

Same as me, I got an A (42/50) for my 'Look Both Ways' SAC which I thought was only worth a C+/B. But i'm very happy with it, my first A for the year in English and I was top of my class in that SAC!
