If you're even barely competent the hazards test is easy.

Personally I found it insanely hard due to:
  The Lack of feedback
The incompetence of a computer monitor to accurately show your surroundings (I don't know how it is im Malbourne but here I had a CRT and the video quality was crappy, pixellated everything,)
The car having a set speed that is shown to you, so when it says 60km/ph, it's not like you know just how fast it will be moving.

Either way this could have just been me.

parallel parking is quite lenient, there is only one car and as shinny has said you have 7 metres and I think 5 changes of gear. You are supposed to be 30cm from the kerb and stop the car turn it off and tell them that you are done but when i did mine she just opened the door and told me to head off without even having turned the engine off.

I was really lucky as I took the same route that the instructor took me on and also had to park behind the exact same car as with my instructor.

Remember your headchecks.

Good luck

shinny

How I see it; it's easy to pass, difficult to score well in. Everyone seems to get around ~70% on it. But yeh, the computer monitor is ridiculous. Was going at 60 km/h and I approached a speed sign which I couldn't read because it was too blurry. Definitely said either 50 or 60 but I didn't know which one >< The lack of feedback is actually more likely to improve your performance by not making you agitated during the exam. Imagine if you had a buzzer go off every time you got a question wrong in your VCE exams...

Hazards is pretty damn hard... just scraped a pass this morning. Screen is horrible can't even see the orange lights til you're right in front of it. 1 down 1 to go :D

Mine didn't, he just said "make the car safe" which is apparently neutral + handbrake on

But yeah the drive test isn't hard, it just requires you to be technically good at driving - headchecks, merging, mirrors etc.

Did you manual Russ? Apparently stalling only deducts marks not instant fail?

Yeah I'm manual.

Stalling...depends on the situation. If you stall in a busy intersection and create an unsafe situation then I think they'll consider that a termination. If you stall pulling out of your parking spot, they're much more lenient. Either way, you definitely don't want to be stalling, it's a big indicator that you don't have good car control

64 here. i didnt know what to do for those ones in the country how there's 1 lane and 2 cars going opposite direction. It says click when to slow down =/

Yeah I'm manual.

Do you downshift when coming into intersections? I'm worried about overrevving and BOOM engine :(

Yes, I (try to) take all intersections and give way signs in 2nd gear. You can get away with third sometimes, but when you slow to ~20 for the corner then it'll chug and you need to rev harder.

I've been told by one person to "ride the clutch" around corners to make it smoother, but i heard elsewhere that any time the clutch is not fully pressed in or released it is being damaged/worn out? Can you enlighten me? :)

Riding the clutch is never a good thing, it destroys it...

Doing it round corners might make it a bit smoother but it gives you much less control of the car (ie you can't use the accelerator properly)

Do you have to repair/replace your clutch often? I know an auto gearbox costs a few thousand but a shitty driver behind the wheel of a manual will end up screwing the clutch up a lot more, thus thinner wallet anyway?

Definitely use 2nd gear.  I only use third gear if it's a very long turn and I don't have to slow down to 20 km/h or if I'm half-way turning and I need to change to 3rd gear.

Yeah 3rd gear is for when I'm being a bad driver (as is starting in 3rd lol)

And as for the clutch, if you don't abuse it then you won't have to replace it. If you grind your gears etc. then it's a few grand

Mm... i'm a bad multitasker, maybe i should stay away from manuals. Everytime i drive manual i seem to forget something else like indicators and bloody morons beep at me when i'm starting off at the lights. I HAVE YELLOW PLATES!
