I'm looking at doing genetics, health and society as my semester 2 breadth/science elective. Am I allowed to do it as it is a level 2 breadth subject, or do I need to do a specific level 1 before it?

Hi,
from what I know GHS is only available in semester 1, so you can't do it in Semester 2.
I assume you're a first-year, right?
You can only do a level 2 breadth in your first year sem 2, if you pass all your subjects in semester 1 (from what i am aware of- you can't do a level 2 breadth in your first semester as a first year)
So if you want to do GHS in sem 1 as a first year- you can't since you need to do a level 1 subject in your first semester.
If you're a second-year and beyond you should be able to do it in sem 1, since there are no prerequisites but first-year bio is recommended (but even vce should suffice)

Hey! I'm doing science next year and I was wondering if it was a valid strategy to cram all my classes into 3 or 4 days and then have 1 or 2 where I'm at home and relaxing or sleeping in/studying. Is this normal for uni students? or do most ppl just spread their lectures and tutes over the whole 5 days of the week. Thanks!

As a soon-to-be final year biomed student at Monash, indeed that's a smart move regardless of which uni + degree you're in, especially if you live a large distance away from campus. With mixed remote learning + on campus learning in 2021, even squeezing everything into 2 days was possible. However, if you have to spend more than 6 hours on campus (including gaps), I'd suggest spreading out classes over 3 days. No one wants to do a 4 hour chem lab straight after a 3 hour physiology one.

Also if you're driving to campus, squeezing everything into 2-3 days also saves you a lot of money on parking that could be better spent on instant ramen for when you move out

So i've been making my timetable and I just had a question regarding scie10005 (the compulsory science subject.). Right now I have the class from 10-11 and then the 'consultation class' from 11-12 on Mondays. However, when I move along the weeks through the semester for my timetable it appears that the 'consultation class' doesn't appear while the normal class does. I'd much prefer to only need to get to uni at 11 so if it were the case that the 'consultation class' only occurred like once per semester i'd move my class up to 11-12 and 12-1. Is the 'consultation class' a regularly weekly occurring class? or is it just like a once or twice a semester type thing. Thanks!

Hey guys, I was wondering if any past students who did VCE Algorithmics and went on to do a Bachelor of Science at Unimelb are able to offer any insight into whether VCE Algorithmics granted any credit for first-year computer science subjects (Foundations of Computing and Foundations of Algorithms), or if VCE Algorithmics just acts as an equivalent prerequisite for second-year computer science subjects and no credit was offered? Thanks in advance!

The handbook suggests that there are 2-hour workshops (I assume the class and the consultation) for the entire semester.

I didn't do Algorithmics but looking at this site, I think Algorithmics only helps as a prerequisite for COMP20003

What GPA would I need to transfer credits from Monash Binfotech to Unimelb Bcom or Computer Software and Systems after completing semester 1? How easy would it be to transfer?
