Or don't do honors in an experimental group...

So mean Mark!  Just let me have my day of complaints for once ;--;
No, I love Honours, really I do, especially in an experimental group!  It's amazing, but some days are just...blah.

El, based on that statement, I feel like we could be academic soulmates. #notcreepy
(I think this applies to the majority of uni students, too; Stick, you're weird.)

lol I think I've figured that one out already :S

Does anyone know why ESD1 is a requirement for the Chemical Systems major and NO OTHER ENGINEERING MAJOR?
I emailed David Shallcross asking if EDS2 would allow me into a Chemical Systems subject and his response was really bloody shirty.
I get that there are rules in place for a reason but he was like "if you think you can get away with doing a Chemical Systems major without completing ESD1, then think again".  I was like... uhhh no I just was interested in a subject but kthxneway.

Hi hobbitle,

Just did a quick search in the handbook with the link here: https://handbook.unimelb.edu.au/view/2014/!R01-AA-MAJ+1006
For the Chemical systems major (4 subjects), you can click on them and work backwards. From what I see you don't need ESD 1 :)

EDIT: note that" In addition to these four core subjects, students must complete either MAST20029 Engineering Mathematics OR both of MAST20009 Vector Calculus AND MAST20030 Differential Equations at Level 2."

Hey Chicken,
Yeah I realised I was looking at the 2012 Handbook. I just saw in the 2014 Handbook that ESD1 is no longer a prerequisite.
Which makes it even stranger that I got a response from the Chemical Systems coordinator scolding me for trying to "get out of" taking ESD1??? Weirdddd... You'd think he'd be up to speed with prerequisite changes?

Hahaha don't worry about him, he's probably jealous that you don't need to do it ;)

OK peoples... looking for some subject advice.
Sadly because I'm behind in my Chemistry prerequisites I kind of have to take a level 2 subject next semester that is kind of unrelated to my direct major or sub major.  Just the way it is.  So I want to pick something as interesting as possible.
Options:

Genes and Genomes (because interested in Bioinformatics and cancer research, genetics subject probably useful, but also subject reviews indicate its a boring and not very challenging subject)
or
Pharmacology: How drugs work (because interested in drug discovery and delivery methods, could be a good insight into this, good subject reviews)
or
Human Physiology (because it looks like a super interesting subject and I was sad about not taking it this semester.)

Thoughts?

Genes and genomes was pretty boring and not that intellectually stimulating. Although the final exam is mcq I thought it was harder than the mid semester test exam, and I think this reflected in my final mark.

Haven't heard much about pharmacology.

As for human physiology, I can't say enough good things about the subject. There were a few tricky mid sem questions but I thought the exam was comparatively easier.

^ I'm leaning more towards Human Phys even though it's probably the least relevant to my studies just because it seems the most interesting. I actually watched the first 15 lectures or so for fun.

Somebody out there likes the idea of research, right? ♥ I've wanted to be a researcher forever. Of course, in order for me to be a researcher there would have to be actual employment in scientific research for Australia. Come on budget, pretty please

Ahhhhh this image features Schrodinger, Heisenberg, Bohr, and Planck. I finally have people to hate for Chemistry 2. It was hard to hate Chemistry 2 lecturers, they were lovely.
