If you have another mac and your mac supports target disk mode then you should be able to access the drive like that.
Otherwise you could plug it into a usb harddrive enclosure and connect it to any computer.

HFS (+) is the file system for Mac partions, so it wouldnt have been NTFS before. NTFS is mostly used for windows.

OSX uses the HFS+ filesystem by default. Windows uses the NTFS filesystem by default. They're just the different ways OS interact with harddrives, there's no cause of concern there.

Windows doesn't contain drivers to read HFS+ partitions. You can install Paragon HFS for Windows, it's a filesystem driver for Windows that will allow you to access HFS+ partitions.

You can take the hard drive out, and place it in some kind of SATA-to-USB enclosure. Essentially, there's a chip in the enclosure that translates SATA signals into USB signals. Once that's done, you can treat it as a regular external hard-drive.

If you already have a 2.5" external hard drive, you can just open the cover up and swap the HDD.
