Hi I would just like to ask for some predictions (again), it's for bio this time.
What study score would I be expecting if I'm ranked 1 in an average to decent cohort with 5-10 40+ every year if I'm getting about 93-96% for my practice exams? (I did VCAA 2013-2016 so the exact mark changes because I omit the questions that's not in the study design).
Thank you :)
going of last study design
93% ~ 102/110
96% ~ 105.5/110

so 93% gets you
47-48 on a hard exam
42 on an easy exam
96% gets a
49-50 on a hard exam
45 on an easy exam

huge disparity since it's top end a couple of marks lost can be a few study scores lost

What marks in the exams (and what marks for exam 1 and 2 for methods and spesh) would I need in a strong cohort?
English: (42-43) Above avg SACS (probably in the middle of the mean and the top marks)

Methods: (42-43) SACS- avg high 80% (cohort avg is usually 60-70%)

Chem (low 30s) SACS- avg is ~80% but mine are 60%  :P

Spesh (~35) SACS- all over the place, sometimes above avg, sometimes avg, sometimes below avg...

German (~35) SACS- avg

I have finished all my SACs (Finally!) . This is how I have been doing so far:
Maths Methods: GA 1: 48/50, 25/25 and 24/25 (rank 1 in a slightly below average cohort)
2012 Exams (probably one of the hardest in my opinion)
Exam 1: 39/40
Exam 2: 72/80 ( if my CAS was in radian mode for average value questions, 74/80   :-\)
2011 Exams:
Exam 1: 37.5/40
Exam 2: 73/80

Specialist Mathematics (by distance): GA 1: 34/50, 20/25 and 24/25 (ranked in the top 25% of a relatively strong cohort) The SACs were all MAV sacs and the wording was vague.
2016 Exam:
Exam 1: 39/40
Exam 2: 68/80
2015 Exam:
Exam 1: 37/40
Exam 2: 73/80

Physics: Rank 1 SACs for Unit 3 and Unit 4
Stav trial exam: 115/130 (should improve before the real exam).

English: Unit 3 SACs: 82/100 rank 2-3/56
Unit 4 SACs: 88/100 rank 3-4/56
Vate trial exam:
Section A: 16/20
Section B: 14/20
Section C: 17/20
Total = 47/60 = 78%
Insight trial exam:
Section A: 15/20
Section B: 17/20
Section C: 16/20
Total = 48/60 = 80%

Hi there!

Psych: no idea what my average is overall since I haven't gotten 3 SACS back out of the 5 we did, but the ones I did get back were 98% and 88% (highest mark for this SAC was like 90%). I do have a strong cohort (always a handful of 50s, with most people getting at least 40+). I think A+ should be achievable for exams.

Chem: okay cohort (lots of 40+ but no 50s)
U3: 87%
U4: 75%
No idea how I will go on exams, at the moment... not looking too good. Might get an A if I'm lucky.

Spesh: strong cohort (lots of 40+ but no 50s)
U3: 75%
U4: 84%
I got a 40 in methods last year if that helps predict my ability in maths.

English: strong cohort (50s and at least half the cohort gets 40+)
U3: 84%
U4: 90%

2016: Methods, Biology
2017: English, Psychology, Chemistry, Specialist Maths

Look, I can’t comment on English and Psych, but for the others:

Chem: it really depends on where you rank - you could be the best with those marks, enabling you to achieve 40s, or you could be rank 30, making it pretty difficult to get there. What I can say though - U4 is weighted more than U3 (24% versus 16%), so that may hurt you a bit, particularly if you don’t get a high exam mark to bump those up. Assuming you did end up getting an A, then I’d imagine you would be eligible for a mid (or perhaps a high) 30, which I guess is still good considering the 4 point scaling. If you got a B or B+, then it would probably be a low 30. Given that I’m in a similar situation with SACs (85 for U3, 87 for U4 in a pretty good cohort), I would highly suggest reinforcing your knowledge for the exam in order to hit an A+. In that way, you can boost your mark to a 40.

Spec: again, depends on your rank and how you’re going in trial exams. In my position, I think I have a mid 90 average across the whole year in a really strong cohort (I think I’m 3rd or 4th), and atm I’m getting around the A to A+ bands in trials. As such, I think it’s fair to predict a mid to high 30, if not, low 40 as a raw study score (which I’d be ecstatic with), so if you’re in a similar position to me, then I would assume you have a similar potential.

Hope this helps :)

Hey there,

English Language: (rank 1, the top 4 are strong, the other 10ish are pretty weak)
GA1: 94/100
GA2: 100/100
GA3: ? - what would I need on the exam to get a low to mid 40 raw? (If everything goes well, I think I could get 65-70)

Math Methods: (rank 1 or 2, again, top 5 are strong, the other 40ish are pretty weak)
GA1: 96/100
GA2: averaging around 38 to 40 /40, depending on whether I make silly mistakes  :P
GA3: Haven’t done many, but I imagine it would a low to mid 70/80
How much should I aim for on exam 1 and 2 for a mid 40?

Specialist Maths (rank 3 or 4 in a really strong cohort):
GA1: 94/100
GA2: averaging about 36-38 /40
GA3: Haven’t done enough to say - what would I need to get a high 30/low 40?

Chemistry (rip):
GA1: 85/100
GA2: 77/90 (86%)
GA3: - Haven’t done enough to say - what would I need to get a 40?

Thanks in advance  ;D

englang 65-70 would get mid to high 40's
methods for 45 you would only want to drop 6 marks (across both exams) on a moderate exam
spec for 40 you only want to drop 10 marks (across both exams)
Chem 100-104/120 for a 40

Can’t comment on English and German, but for the rest:

MM: I think dropping a total of ~10 marks over both exams would land you a low 40 - an A+ for E1 is around 37/40, while an A+ for E2 is around a high 60/80. For someone who wants to get >40, aim for full marks on E1 since it’s easy, and ~70/80 for E2.

CH: I would say aim for 75-85/120

SM: I would say you can drop ~20 across both papers - a B+ for E1 I think is around 30-32/40, and ~60/80 for E2.

Note that I’m not an expert in this, so someone else may want to verify & correct the accurateness of this post...

Hello!

Strong cohort (top 20ish in state)

English                U3:54% U4: 58%
Exam score needed for a 25? 30?
(ranked terribly, approx last)

Methods              Ga1: 85%
Up to how many marks can I drop for a 40+?

Specialist             Ga:1 68%
What should I aim for to get 35?

Thanks! :)
