A number of days ago A Current Affair released this video about Asians taking over and kicking out Australian businesses etc. with particular reference to one town. I haven't listed what the lies bs/exaggerations in the story are but The Chasers sums it up quite nicely if you want a quick overview (Starts at 10:00):

Why did they at all release this bs video full of lies, across which perhaps is trying to imbed the notion that Asian appearance automatically puts you in the category of 'outsiders' not ever being 'true blue' even been here say, since the 1800s? Or that we should fear multiculturalism? Their usage of quotes like ‘I want to be a bloody Aussie, I don’t want to be Asian’ or ‘Asians … kicking out Australian shopkeepers’ further promotes this idea.

What are your opinions? Why do you think they released it knowing that they would spark flares?

These are real views and fears people have, and ACA is exploiting that instead of actually reporting truthfully. It really sucks because everyone suffers, there's an atmosphere of fear on top of the isolation and demonisation of racial groups.

They released it because they knew that it would appeal to many of their viewers. The fact that the story was really a non-issue doesn't matter when they're not aiming for the truth. They aim to engage with their viewers, many of whom, unfortunately, share the attitude that Asian people are "taking over".
It's painfully obvious that they weren't trying to provide a factual piece whatsoever, as shown by their use of Pauline Hanson. If they reported truthfully, it would be uninteresting, as Chaser proved. 14%, iirc, of the shopkeepers are Asian. Not a story at all.

Yeah I saw this on ACA when they aired it, classic ACA. Was similar to that Muslim one they did last year, just causing a lot of outrage. They just do it for coverage I guess, it's like they want to fuel conflict between groups.

I'd love to see what the ACA guys actually think of their own broadcasts. The reporters must surely know that their material is bogus.

No, the reporters are up themselves. When I did work experience at Channel 10, they all thought they were gods or something just because they got to stick their heads on TV once a day. It's why I immediately discounted the career path.

Personally i am not Asian (I am middle eastern which is part of Asia but that's beside the point) , but i feel so annoyed when shit like this is put in the media...
ACA and TT are the most pointless TV shows on Australian TV.
