Bhootnike, why the 8am Tuesday Chem tute? Srsly?

This is a personal thing and up to you but for mine there are too many gaps and lots of time will get wasted unless you are serious about studying between classes.

I would change:
-I think you forgot the Monday Chem lecture at 10am
-Put Bio Workshop 1-4pm Monday
-Put Chem Prac 9am-12pm Tuesday or 6.15pm-9.15pm on Wednesday
-Put Chem tute on 3.15pm Tuesday (8am tutes are awful, or so i've heard)
-Put Mast Prac to Monday 11am or Wednesday 3.15pm to 4.15pm

Your Mondays will be hell whenever you have bio workshop but your Thursdays will be looking sweet as...you'd probably be able to take Thursdays off every week. :)

for chem,
where does " 6 hours of computer aided learning during semester, 8 hours of independent learning tasks during semester." fit in?
and for biol,
where does:
"6 hours of additional problem solving classes (1 hour per fortnight), 24 hours of pre-and post laboratory activities (2 hours per week), 24 hours of e-learning, online activities including independent learning tasks (2 hours per week)", fit in?

At home :)

Bhootnike, not sure if you've realized but you've picked a level 3 (LING30007) subject in first year.

ok thanks for the replies.

@el2012:ahhhhhhhh right,
cause thats why i got confused.

for biol , the contact hours are as such:
Contact Hours: 3 x one hour lectures per week, 18 hours of workshops(1 hour of theory workshop and 2 hours of practical workshop per fortnight), 6 hours of additional problem solving classes (1 hour per fortnight), 24 hours of pre-and post laboratory activities (2 hours per week), 24 hours of e-learning, online activities including independent learning tasks (2 hours per week).
Total Time Commitment:

in the actual timetable, a lab sesh goes for 3 hours, so im guessing that 1 hr is the theory, and 2 hr is the prac workshop, as written in the handbook -  hence the 3hrs.
i thought in a fortnight ill be doing 2 hours of theory workshop, and 4 hrs of practical workshop, haha, which'd be too much.
so thats goood :)

ill post up a mock timetable i made in a while so someone can see if its right :p

For chemistry:

The 6hrs of computer aided learning tasks refers to the "chemcal" program, where you have to complete and pass various modules before each prac (don't worry you can redo them if you fail them). You just do these at home on your computer via the LMS.

The ILTs are un-timed they give you that you during the semester on the LMS which are often examinable (the content on the chemistry ILTs was often different to what was taught during lectures etc.). You must pass these to pass the chemistry subject (I think you can also redo these but i'm not sure..)

The biol ILTS count towards 5% of your mark, you cannot redo them and the content specifically relates to the lecture notes.

The pre and post prac tests for bio you just do at home on your computer via the LMS.

I think the 6hrs of additional problem solving classes for bio refers to the "topic tutorials". These are not compulsory to attend but are worth going to if you find a particular topic difficult or if you have never done bio before. There are also Tutor contact hours if you are struggling with the content.

As you can see, there provide a lot of programs/ classes during the semester to help you out so there's no reason you can't do well :)

Mine's looking pretty good but I'm concerned about the walking distance between my back-to-backs... Do I need to change them? :/

Nope that's fine! I had to do that too and for the same venues, and I got to class a minute or so earlier (i'd just get a map for the first week if you are a bit unfamilar) Your timetable is pretty perfect for first year!

Bhootnike, not sure if you've realized but you've picked a level 3 (LING30007) subject in first year.

Just keep in mind a level 3 subject in first year might be a little bit of a challenge. I looked on the handbook and they recommend a first year linguistics subject. I've also noticed that with my linguistics subjects in my first year, they can be quite pedantic with regards to marking.

Where did you find the tutorial times for Finance 1? Whenever I go on it's timetable page on the handbook it only comes up with the 2 lecture streams for Semester 1.

@El2012

Tuesdays off is no good for him. :/
The LING tute is compulsory.
I tried to make it so he can get Thursdays off though.

ah ok. Yeah the ling tute is compulsory, except for probably 2 weeks during the semester where they don't run.

@Bhootnike. If there's any way to make your days finish earlier e.g. by putting classes one after the other then it's going to be easier come exam time

hahah.

fairo.
I might just change from semantics to " Language in Aboriginal Australia" , which is a level 2 subject and has no background knowledge needed.

This is a personal thing and up to you but for mine there are too many gaps and lots of time will get wasted unless you are serious about studying between classes.

I would change:
-I think you forgot the Monday Chem lecture at 10am

At home :)

i will look at this :) thanks
question - is it wise to put a biol lec at 9 to 10, then a chem from 10 to 11?
i mean, the time it'd take to get from one room to another, wouldnt i end up being late to the chem lecture haha?

Bhootnike, I changed your timetable around. This way you can get Tuesday practically off and finish on monday (i.e. listen to the semantics lecture at home) and wednesday early! (hope it's right)

thanks :) ill try and use yours to create a good timetable too!
but yeah, as stonecold mentioned, i think the ling tute is compulsory :s theres a hurdle requirement too haha.

AND tbh, thursdays off would be good, i can get good hours at a bar hahah  (if i were to work ):P

are you sure its fine to do that !?
like 10 am to 11am calc 2, then 11am to 12pm, biol lec for example.

You want to have classes back to back, otherwise you'll spend an hour doing nothing. Classes finish at xx.55 anyway, you have time to get between them. If not, it's still not worth putting them later

And I'll add, they generally start at xx.05.

I'm actually a fan of the one-hour break, in some circumstances. After 2-3 hours worth of class, it's good to recharge for your afternoon classes. 5 hours of consecutive classes hurts the brain. Breaks between 12-1 or 1-2 are easily best, because there's likely to be a BBQ around. Everyone should be a fan of free snags and/or vegie burgers.

However, having too many one-hour breaks sucks. Especially if they're in the afternoon.
