Another little thing I'd like to say.

During the first few classes for methods, I did not understand a lot of what the teacher said. So I couldn't complete the class and homework. So when it came to doing methods homework, I was severely unmotivated. Feeling that because I'm already behind, there's not point trying to catch up, it's a horrible subject yadayada.

If you ever do feel like this. I know it may be obvious, but seriously try and force yourself to do the work! It's an amazing feeling!

It's the first damn week and I was already confused haha. But all I needed was to force myself for 10 minutes and I was getting the processes and already into it. 1 solid hour later, done the section. :)

(Don't know if I was pointing out the obvious, but I said it anyway :P)

kesh, you are such an inspiration  :)

I think you should help others (provided you still have time for your own study of course). Personally, I found that once things got less competitive, the general environment of the classroom was more learning orientated and everyone (including the stronger students) benefited from the more complex discussion that could be done. Also, helping others can help you to find gaps in your knowledge, and then you realise what you need to learn.

SAC rankings will sort themselves out, and the stronger competition can push you to understand the material even better. Helping them now could improve their exam performance too, which can increase your study score.

Also, helping others can be fun :)
I found this to be very, very true last year. Hebrew was an entirely non-competitive environment and we all gladly helped each other - we (well, the five of us) had study sessions before each SAC. In the end, the rankings sorted themselves out as they should have.

Having said that though, I would still keep in mind how much you're helping others and how willingly other people are helping you. I'm sure it wasn't intentional, but I did help some people in Methods a lot more than they helped me when I asked.

kesh, you are such an inspiration  :)

Thank you Machi, that does mean a lot :)

I think this problem I had is the same problem that a lot of others have which ultimately begins the process of giving up. I had a friend today during further. He never really studied as far as I saw, he failed general actually, but he's been finding further a breeze until he came across y=mx+c.. He jokingly said "Everything was piss easy and then this comes up".

He also had the exact same problem I have when asking teachers questions sometimes. It's that I'm afraid that if I ask a question I don't understand, the teacher will start explaining things I have no idea about. This guy also tried asking, he just nodded, and I could tell he didn't get it. Haha. He did give up at that stage too, but I tried explaining a different method to him, and he seemed willing to try and learn which was pretty cool as well.

To those who want to know, he was having trouble finding the equation using two co-ordinates. He found the gradient, but then he couldn't transpose to get c. He was basically having trouble with using the y - y2=m (x - xx).

I just taught him another method which I find easier too, which is to sub in the x,y values of one co ordinate into the equation and then solving for C!

And here's another tip for people scared of asking questions. Biggest mistake you can make is ask "miss/sir, I don't understand question 5." at least for me, it never works haha. Always ask for the specific problem you're having. The more specific you are, the more accurate their explanation will be too :)

An interesting discussion came up on the other thread in the water cooler. I think it's an interesting topic so I thought it deserves better exposure here :)

(Re: it's about time spent studying)

My week day consists of, waking up at 5:15 and excersising. Getting to school at 7:30-8am, studying till about 8:45. then after school. 3:30 I get home. Non academic time (lol) is from 3:30 to about 6-6:30pm. From there, 1 hour of one subject, 10 minutes break, 1h of another. So once I'm done, it's about 8:15-9ish. I do what ever I'd like to, ie, get stuff ready for tomorrow. Then I get ready for bed and sleep :)

It's only the start for me, so if I do find myself falling behind excessively, I'll make adjustments as I go. Within a few months, my standard routine should be concrete :) Provided I'm disciplined enough to follow my own rules haha.

But as I mentioned, my goals are not very high compared to a lot of you guys so I guess that's why I have a lot of spare time. So I think a lot people will look at each others time tables and think, "wow, that's a load of loafing around he does" or "she's definitely gonna burn out", but without knowing the person, their goals and their expectations, I think it's hard to make a judgement on how people study.

But I think this will be enough for me to reach the goal I desire :)

What does your day look like?

When I look at other people's timetables, I always think "so they're supposed to stick to that every day?" I just mix and match my time, and try to get everything done. If I have homework, I do it when I have time, ordered by priority. If I feel like I need to revise, I read over the textbook and summarise it. The only thing really routine for me is gaming and sleep so I don't stress out, but even that can be compromised!

What does your day look like?

atm and on a day where I don't leave the house:
2pm: Wake up, play scramble with friends
2.15pm: Breakfast, get dressed, read the paper, give the dog something to eat, etc
3.30pm: Do any tasks my mum left me to do (washing, dishes, etc.)
4.30pm: Facebook, movies, writing AN guide, AN, IRC, Minecraft, Suits, tetris, music, etc + one meal somewhere in there (maybe 10pm?)
4.30am: play scramble with friends
4.40am: sleep

I lead a tough life :)

I can relate to your post. I honestly don't get how people can be so organised with timetables and what not...
I go home and just watch tele. until 7-8, and then I study for 2 hours. But I do try to stay in front class, i'm only doing 4 subjects so this is fairly easy to do.
Do you think it's better to exercise during the study breaks, or before starting study?

my goals are not very high compared to a lot of you guys

Just remember you have the potential to achieve higher! I think it's important to work just that bit harder to achieve say 2 atar points higher than the cut off of your course for the previous year because the cutoff change can be pretty "drastic" in terms of how many apply (e.g. melb uni science went from 90.15 to around 92)

Dayum haha!

I know what you mean, but I'm find that this seems to make me work more efficiently. Perhaps my brain is into learning mode at this time exactly. What ever it is, I don't know, but it works so I'm gonna stick to it :P

I give it +-30 minutes and I feel that's enough.

i find during!

I exercise in the morning, but I take a 5 minute walk outside after the 1st hour just to clear my head :) and then a 20 minute one the next.

Well said :) I should rethink my goals perhaps.

I know :( But I have that guilty feeling that I'm being far too ambitious. Perhaps I can alter my goals after my first SAC.

The reality of hitting A+ for each outcome hit me. I may be underestimating myself too :) Lets hope so hey!

Perhaps if you correct all my work I could aim higher ;)
