As copied from the 2012 examiner's report (social values section):
"Finally, many students only made reference to one text, or saw additional texts as being merely supportive to their ‘main’ text. This is not how the revised study design presents this Area of Study, as it asks for students to look at a range of texts within a specific discourse. The most successful responses came from students who knew a number of texts well and equally, and were able to reference between them."As long as you are able to fully compare/contrast characters, discourses, values etc. then it should be fine.
That's an interesting one, actually! It makes me think about the widespread shock and horror and condemnation of any portrayal of anything sexual in the media (and indeed, in all walks of life) despite our readiness to be exposed to gratuitous violence almost everywhere we look, which is arguably a lot worse. It's the kind of cultural value which leads to kids under the age of 5 being given guns which can kill people but their parents kicking up an almighty fuss if they see vaguely sexual content anywhere. It'd be a great case study!
We didn't technically study the songs but just discussing about ones which have been censored was good practice (example: Akon ft David Guetta's "Sexy Bitch" to "Sexy Chick" and ones which have been *bleeped*). You bring up a good point. Our views and values are also shown via how we as a society react to various ideas and whether we see them as threatening (the degree of influence) they have on us.
