Wait, that wouldn't by any chance be Mr. Tim Rayner could it?

On the point of using 'I' in essays, I have done before and I can see how it would reduce credibility somewhat (I mean, we are just VCE students after all). On the other hand, I personally prefer to write that way (possibly to my own detriment haha :) )

Yeah, that's my teacher.

I just don't write "I" because I never consider myself a reliable source of information, which is why I ALWAYS hope people take what I say with a grain of salt :P

For the 2011 VCAA exam section A: http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Documents/exams/englishlanguage/2011englang-cpr-w.pdf

In regards to question 3,
- how does repetition of lexemes such as "stress" (6, 7) and "patience" (8, 11) and "control" (12, 13) create cohesion? (according to assess report those were the line numbers)
- Also, how does the use of question and answer, e.g. "How to cope? Patience, courtesy..." create cohesion?

The text is: http://www.smh.com.au/travel/traveller-tips/passenger-etiquette-the-rules-of-air-travel-20100406-roos.html

Ugh, this subject is too damn hard

Well you probably know that cohesion refers to the how the elements in the sentences are explicitly 'glued' together. A common cohesive cue is the use of lexemes from the same lexical field together with synonymy and antonymy. Here, 'patience' and 'control' originate from the same lexical field that is associated with endurance, resignation etc.. When 'stress' (an antonym to patience) is used within close proximity of these terms, it allows readers to subconsciously identify lexical chains and alert them to the words that bind the text together, thus creating cohesion.

I haven't done the 2011 exam yet so you probably have more info that is relevant to the text that can be added on to what I'm saying :)

Thushan, you and i went down the same path for englang. However, i'm destined for mediocrity in this subject :(. Despite the dutchman being wondrously entertaining all year, i do think that i could have done with the extra effort timmy would have given and expected from me like he did last year  :'(

Hope you're joking he basically told us everything we already knew then proceeded to read us what I think was an already publicly available examiner's report. Cheers Tim.

-"Bad writing is common in online communication". Do you agree? Refer to at least 2 subsystems.
.. and what exactly could be a contention?

I'm not too sure here; my online writing is really weak, but I'd mention attitudes towards online language, its advantages and what benefits to communication it brings.
