Anyone else get an email from ANU today or yesterday about progressing to stage 3 of the application process?
Also: Any present/past ANU students want to help me know what to expect there?
- Oblivious Victorian student probably way out of his depth

There's lots of trees. Oh and there's ducks :D. What course are you thinking about doing? If you have any specific questions, fire away. (or come onto http://www.atarnotes.com/forum/index.php?action=chat, I'll be on there)

I'm a pretty new user and that chat makes no sense to me :-\
I'm thinking of doing Arts, maybe? When I started the application I was interested in Sciences but Specialist and Chemistry have since ruined that for me. Is it possible to start a language at ANU, like at Melbourne? Or is that a no-go?
Also: how cold in Canberra in July? I know Victorian weather pretty well but I am clueless about ACT.

Yeah it's possible to start a language, I haven't looked at them all but most of them do have Introductory _____ 1 of some sorts offered (e.g https://studyat.anu.edu.au/majors/FREN-MAJ;overview.html,https://studyat.anu.edu.au/majors/LATN-MAJ;overview.html. You can find the other ones listed under the Arts majors here https://studyat.anu.edu.au/programs/3111XBARTS;majors.html)

I've only been in the ACT for 5 months, but so far it's fairly cold but I wouldn't say it's that different to Victorian weather.

I got rejected too but congrats! That's so lovely and amazing and I am somehow excited for you.

( abcdqd, can I ask what your rejection email said? I got a sort of strange one which I'm curious to see whether was sent out en masse or was personalised..)

I got this:
The University and the Tuckwell Scholarship Foundation have been delighted with the nationwide response to the call for applications and with the quality of the applications we received.

The Selection Panel has now finalised the shortlist and we regret to inform you that your application has not been selected to progress to the interview round. This will be very disappointing news for you, but I am writing to let you know that if you achieve an ATAR between 99.75 and 99.85, you are automatically eligible for an ANU National Merit Scholarship (valued at $6,500 per annum for up to 5 years) and if you achieve an ATAR of 99.90 or above you are automatically eligible for a National University Scholarship (valued at 12,500 per annum for up to 5 years). We encourage you to visit the ANU website for further details.

You have demonstrated considerable initiative in your application, and have impressed us with the ways in which you are contributing to the life of your school and the wider community. These are the qualities that we see in ANU students, and we therefore encourage you to join us in 2014.

Please note that the decision of the Selection Panel is final, and due to the number of applications received, the University is unable to provide individual feedback.

Yours sincerely

Professor Marnie Hughes-Warrington
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic)

Judging by "the University is unable to provide individual feedback.", I'm pretty sure it was the same for everyone haha

Hey!

Firstly- congratulations! That is a HUGE achievement.

Secondly, would you mind sharing what you think stood out about your application/ what extra curriculars/ attributes do you think got you to this stage?

I applied too, but would love to know how I could improve or where my application let me down.

Well done again  :)

Thanks! Honestly, I have no idea how I got this far. I do some volunteer work, mostly free tutoring, and am a member of my school's social justice committee, but other than that I can't even really remember what I even put in my application! I also go to a rural school, so that may have contributed. I think my teacher must have written a spectacular reference (Stage 2 requirement), but I picked him knowing that he would (he has me for both Literature and Revolutions and is the leader of my 'mentor group' so he knows me more than a standard teacher would).

I remember in Stage 1 I wrote about Australia Day and ANZAC Day and how I have volunteered/marched at each for every year since I was "old enough to carry a plate of scones". The scholarship seems to have an emphasis on a commitment to Australia, so these may have helped. I don't know.

Oh awesome. Well done again! You sound very accomplished.  ;D

What courses were you interested in?

Did you find the questions in the second round really hard? what did you end up picking? I did the bedroom and friend one  :)
