hey guys,

what is the difference between a banking major and finance major?

And which one would be most helpful for a second major and as part of an economics degree?

thanks

The two are inter-related. Banking focuses on the different types of FIs, different types of risks facing banks (i.e. credit risk, liquidity risk, interest rate risk etc.), securitisation. Finance also relates to risk, but other things such as calculating returns on maturities/securities. There is a banking and finance major offered as part of the BBus degree at Monash Caulfield if you want to look into that. It really depends on your own interests. I personally think finance is more relevant to economics than banking (i.e. RBA).
