Allergic response, rational drug design, experimental design and (god help us all) a natural selection/speciation question-surely I'm not the only one who despises answering NS/S questions ahahha!

I thought that rational drug design was taken out of the course... My textbook makes no mention of it.

Rational drug design is deffs there!

We were never taught about it. :/ The study design makes no mention of it either.
But if it is still in the course, I am now a tad stressed.

Don't worry! It's a pretty simple concept; it's designing a drug that blocks the action of a disease causing agent; competitive inhibition basically. They'd only ask it in the context of enzymes I believe.

Ah, okay. We were taught about inhibition in terms of enzymes, but not in the scope of rational drug design. Thanks!

If osmosis doesn't make an appearance in this exam, VCAA might as well take it out of the SD. It hasn't appeared in years!

Probably a good idea to have a definition of it. VCAA's definition for RDD: The analysis of a disease to determine a structure/aspect of the disease; a drug is then designed to mimic/block the action of the disease causing agent. OR a drug developed to act specifically on an infective agent/enzyme; this then binds and removes the capacity to cause disease.

Definitely an experimental design q, probably speciation/natural selection, a lot do to with enzymes considering it wasn't in last year's exam (maybe it'll tie in with a rational drug design q?)

Thanks for that! I thought I was all prepared for this exam. Obviously I've got a bit more work to do. :P

So, I just did the 2013 exam and I am now almost certain that there will be a natural selection/speciation question on tomorrow's exam. I'm surprised there wasn't one on last year's exam! There might also be a question asking to describe DNA replication and maybe the stages of photosynthesis too.

How I hope so!  ::)
How'd you go on it? I found it quite easy which is a scary thing knowing this year might be harder ._.

Obviously not Katie, but I got 106/110. Got 40/40 for MC, but stupid errors cost me in the SA. I thought the labelling of Question 6 was pretty dodgy, as I thought F was referring to a single amino acid instead of the entire polypeptide.

106 is such a great mark! Hopefully this year's exam there aren't any dodging diagrams or graphs haha
