Does anyone know how to accept an ANU scholarship? and when do accommodation offers usually come out?

Hey!

If you got offered a scholarship, surely they would've provided you with instructions on how to accept it?

In regards to the accommodation offers, I got my offer on the 9th of January in 2012. So they should be coming out soon. You will have 48 hours to accept your offer when you get it!

just saw this was an anu thread and just thought i could ask the question about the tuckwell scholarship

i was just wondering if there is anyone that has applied this year or previously that could give some advice to me about the nature of the tuckwell scholarship application process, i am quite short on details and find the sight quite vague and ambiguous in regards to the type of person they are after.

additionally what is the process in regards to section 2 and 3, anyone could help that would be amazing!

I decided at the last minute not to apply.   Why?  because you've essentially got to be pretty extraordinary, community minded and be prepared to continue to give to Australia.

I know two students who progressed pretty far in the application process last year and still didn't get it and they're much more dedicated, academic and community minded than I am.   It's not a scholarship where people can tell you what criteria you need to meet to reach stage 2 or 3 - you're either "worthy" of being a Tuckwell scholar or not.   I decided there were much more deserving people out there than me.

Did you apply ?   Did you discuss it with your school?   They have to agree to support your application (and say they expect you to get at least an 95 (I think it was) ATAR).   Maybe your school can provide you more information if you make it through to the other stages - good luck

PS none of the Tuckwell Scholars get under 98.5 (but it's not about academics)

Given that even if you're from a top school like Melbourne High, there's not going to be more than two students from your school in any given year. If you don't have the confidence to say that you are the most community-minded and talented individual from your school it's worth reconsidering.

But that having been said, it's always worth a try because never live a life with regrets (if you tried it, and you failed, that's fine! In my personal opinion, success in this application has to be built from a very young age, not something that you can just 'work hard' in the last 2-3 months or so and achieve it).

Personally I find it's a very rewarding experience, despite my low chance of succeeding, the potential future as an investment banker and having the chance to work with Graham Tuckwell is just too good an opportunity. Obviously the monetary incentives are great and all, but it's the opportunities provided in the experience that makes it most valuable from my standpoint.

Don't worry about the process in Stages 2/3 until you pass. It's incredibly tough (from what i've heard, leading in the high thousands figure in relation to applications and they only pick around 150-250 applications to advance).

Best of luck to you though, and others applying!

Ooooooo another student from Melbourne high best of luck my.peer!! Hahab

I also applied the school supported me and I am expecting to get an atar of around 95, based on last years score, cohort and current progress this year.

In regards to community service I have done a lot of door knocking, fundraising and social work in inner Melbourne.  I understand that it is an extremely difficult scholarship to obtain but I hope for the best.

To those above that have also applied could you share some of the things that you have done for and in your community and the type of things you wrote on your stage 1 application know that it is submitted and largely irrelevant.  Look forward to hearing from you guys,  I hope we can get a continual tuckwell thread going its exciting  :D

There wasn't enough space to list many achievements, so I went with the big ones, eg.
-Nationally and statewide recognised awards
-Year 12 Leadership positions
-NFP/Charities where i've had a profound impact (organising and helping run the actual event, not just volunteering).
-My various interactions with members of the panel (Mr Monkhouse, Professor Schmidt).

Personally, I just focused more on the various opportunities that the scholarship can grant and less on the monetary incentives, because from my perspective, opportunities to interact with people like Mr Tuckwell and other bright scholars is far more rewarding in the long term than the scholarship itself, especially given that I want to pursue a career in investment banking/politics/law.

All the best to you all :) making the next round's going to be tough, I hear that there are around the vicinity of 10000 applicants and only 200-ish make it through!

Wow you sound so accomplished compared to me    :D :D

How do you know the various members of the selection panel, through your nfp work or another external mean??

Out of interest, because I heard from my friend last year, that they like multi dimensional people, so people that are very good at sport and the like.  I am so uncoordinated aaaaaarrrrrr, do you play sport do you think it will matter much?

Best of luck also

The members that I met were all due to the opportunities that my school was able to give me so i'm very thankful for it!

Yeah, multi-dimensions matter significantly because they will commonly receive many 99.95 (or potential 99.95ers) applying but most of them won't receive the actual scholarship. I.e if you're a booknerd you don't really have a chance.

Personally I play basketball primarily and will most likely be representing school for that :)
