Hey guys,
Sooo... my LAT result was pretty shocking; much worse than I thought it would be. But I'm kinda confused as to what I should do; and it has made me question whether I really wanted to do law in the first place or I just followed what most people at my school wanted to do.
Does anyone have any tips on finding the right degree, cos I'm kinda panicked now!!!
I wrote this article on some things you might want to consider! As Rui has said, don't feel too pressured by this decision.
So many people transfer internally at uni, finishing in the exact same degree you started in is actually not as common as you think! Swapping majors or adding a double, etc etc, are quite common
To be honest, if the first thing you think of when considering Law is that "most people in my school were doing it," it's probably worth reconsidering your choice. I mean, if Law interests you then by all means go for it, but you shouldn't follow the crowd. That never leads to anything good. Law is one of those degrees that quite a few people take and then drop, just because it's the "done thing" and then people get there and want to do something else. I mean that happens in every degree, but you get the point
What sort of job do you see yourself in for the future? You shouldn't necessarily choose your degree for the job, but where do you see yourself in 10 years? What skills do you need to get there? What degree can give you those skills?
As a final note, remember that degrees aren't job specific (for the most part). Plenty of Engineers end up in the Business world. People who do Commerce degrees can end up working in an engineering firm. You aren't doing your degree for a job, you are doing it for a
skill set, and skills are pretty versatile
