Does anyone have any good recommendations for laptops for uni. Price is pretty flexible. Dont use the computer for super demanding programs but will need to last for at least 5-7 years
What are you studying my friend? If you are doing something related to coding/computer science, a Mac laptop of some description will be easier for you software wise. A 2015 Macbook Pro is good value for money right now, but if you are looking for longevity the newer ones have the USB C 3.1 ports that are going to become way more popular for peripherals in the coming years. Short term pain, long term gain - Macs are expensive but generally last pretty much as long as you want them to.
Since it doesn't sound like you'll be running any specialised software, it really becomes a matter of preference and what you actually want to do with it.
If you will be doing a lot of handwritten rather than typed notes, for example, you could explore a hybrid with a stylus, like the Microsoft Surface or the Lenovo Thinkpad (to name a few). If you were mainly typing you'd not bother with that and sacrifice a touch display for portability, or power.
Is a good display important to you? Are you willing to pay for something better to watch movies on or are you happy with anything readable? Do you need better battery life and is that worth getting a heavier laptop? These are the sorts of questions to ask.
Personally, I'll always just advocate for a current or very recent Macbook Pro. They'll do whatever you throw at them (besides play games), they're portable with reasonable battery life, and if you are willing to pay for it now it will last ages. My Dad still uses his from like 2010

I've been using a Lenovo Yoga for uni (think mine's the 720?) and I think it's great - really, really good battery life, I can use it for a whole day of uni without needing to be charged. It's also lightweight, and has a touchscreen and can be flipped around to turn into a tablet. So yeah, I'd say definitely consider a Lenovo!
Love Lenovo
