Hi again :),
I sometimes see my friends writing alpha as in the sign alpha and theta, is this allowed in the exam? (though I doubt it?)

And my teacher went about saying the islets in the pancreas, we need to be precise and mention islets of Langerhans in the pancreas right?

I have never heard of islets/islets of Langerhans. I don't even remember doing anything related to the pancreas in detail last year.

In-depth knowledge regarding the pancreas would only ever be needed for homeostasis SACs; it's not something you need for the exam. The exam will give you sufficient stimulus information, and then require you to apply the principles of homeostasis to answer everything else.

As for the greek notation, either's acceptable.

haha, 50 exams 50 SS

However, no offence but your advice will not help me at all because i will never get my hands on even 10 practise exams. This is why public schools suck and I guess why money leads to ultimate power.

Pretty sure you could hunt down more than 10 exams on this website if you actually tried to look around. And besides, you don't NEED 50 exams. Everyone is different.  I did around 10 or so for unit 4 bio.

Tried, you have no idea how much I tried. Theres about 6 for unit 3.

Well I'm the type that needs a lot of practise before I do something, so exams are essential.

Serious? I count 14 Exam 1's in there + the 4 on the VCAA site, that'd make 18.

Hence this thread is called 'How I got a 50', not how you should go about getting one.
I merely made it because I thought people might be interested - I do make reference to, and realize entirely that different people study differently.

Also, if you are looking for practice exams that aren't available on various internet sites you can always invest in some yourself from school book stores etc.  Like Neap ones!  Or use Checkpoints if that is the case for you :)

Hmm, A question, In the note bible, theres a part on staining bacterial walls with gram to find out its properties

Is this needed for VCE or can we completely disregard this?

Well that's all to it, so it's not too hard to remember, whether it is in the course or not. It is just used to identify "gram negative" and "gram positive" bacteria, which are different types  of bacteria (and to see whether or not a specific antibiotic can be suitable for use for it) :P

Yeah, just learn what akira said.  :)

Sorry, I haven't been into the last section of the notes yet.
What do you have to know about T & B Lymphocytes?  The textbooks don't explain it that well.

I know what they do on their own, but I don't really get how helper T cells interact with B cells and all that stuff.

On a side note, VCAA = criminals.

Can you believe on the 2007 exam, they asked for an example of the first line of defence, and if you said 'skin' you were marked wrong!  It had to be 'an intact/unbroken skin.'

As Douchy said, that is like saying you drive around in a 'functioning car.'

Has to be one of the stupidest answers I've ever heard...

Hey, just wondering when was the last time you sent out a batch of bio bibles because last time I pm'd you with my email and you said it would out soon.

Not being rude or impatient or anything, just checking to see if you've forgotten me. :)

Just came up with a killer way of how to remember that the sensory nerves are afferent, and that motor nerves are efferent:

S.A.M.E!

Sensory-afferent-Motor-efferent.

Haha lame.  Hopefully it might help out in the unlikely event that is comes up in the exam.  :P
