yea, the majority of ppl walked out thiking they had all got A/A+. In fariness, it was the first year of the new study design, but everyone should still take heed of the lesson that many people learnt which was to be super-critical of your working. That year many people with the mathamatical abilty to score 45+ fell short of their pottential because of small silly, not even errors, but ways of presenting their anwsers

so vexx, you got 78% doing 2006 exam 1 (1 hour one) minus probability?
so as in 78% out of all the questions you did attempt

noo i did all of it, even if i didn't understand some things, hence why my score wasn't too high (and many stupid mistakes).
probability isn't too hard though so i didn't feel a reason to ignore it.
i got 80% for exam1, and 76% for exam 2, my average if you count weightings was closer to ~77% or so..

Okies, finished exam 1 in about 25-30 minutes... spent like 15 minutes alone on drawing that stupid translated cos graph. i left blank a whole page on the probability one about standard deviation and stuff, didn't get it at all. gonna correct it now. im assuming use vcaa assessors report to correct?

Ooooh shit!!! lol i got 80%! same as you vexx
32/40
7 marks lost on probability (simply because i haven't learnt it yet...)
1 mark lost stupidly, for leaving the answer with surd as denominator

I don't think you would actually lose a mark for that. But there's no point risking it.

And don't worry about probability(if you are) in Methods it is actually quite easy.

Did they (assessors) require the students to rationalise the answer?

modify: As I thought (m@tty).

The question is worth 3 marks
In vcaa report
They show the answer i got, then rationalised the denominator.
Then they say in the comment
"Some students had difficulty in simplifying the expression as it contained a surd."
so im assuming they were being tight and deducting marks for it

Probability seems to be harder than the rest of the course... :(
I guess just takes time to get used to it, as it wasn't done much in 1/2

haha awesome, yeah i didn't really understand some of the probability stuff should have done some questions first.
i spent sooo long on that cos graph too ahah.

I think we should finish learning probability before we do more exams lol, just throwing marks down the drain for not knowing how to do it

Ohh by the way...
if the question is asking for f(g(x))
should we leave the answer as (2x+1)^2 + 1?
Or simplify it to 4x^2 + 4x + 2

Im worried if we don't simplify, thye might be tight this year and take marks off
But in 2006 they accepted unsimplified answer

the answer they had if i remember correctly wasn't simplified, but i did it anyway.. i think you'd get the mark if you didn't simplify though

and yes im gonna go over probability in the next couple of weeks and then do another exam :)
