hey guys just need some help with deciding what course to do next year

i want to pursue a career in medicine but if i don't make it into monash MBBS im not sure what to put next

@monash there is a Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Bachelor of Engineering... im thinking of this course because i am interested in engineering and would like to keep post grad medicine as an option... would this course allow me to satisfy the subject requirements of post grad med ?
or would a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Engineering be a better choice? would this course allow me to enter postgrad med?

the other option is to do Biomedicine @ melbourne but im worried about not getting a high enough GAMSAT score... (another reason why i am thinking of a double degree)

2008: KLD young scholar
VCE 2009: Psychology
VCE 2010: Methods (CAS), Specialist Maths, Chemistry, Physics and Literature

2011: Bachelor of commerce/science at monash

do biomed @ melb :)
if you dont get into med theres always other things like research and biomedical engineering.

or biomedical sciences/engineering @ Monash i guess, if you wanna do a double degree (i think it will satisfy the requirements for post grad med)

i dont really like the idea of research... thats why im worried

the reason why im not sure about the double degree u mentioned is that i dont know if the biomedical science part is integrated into the engineering part. Would me picking that course mean that i would end up with a biomedical engineering degree ? because i dont want that, i just want to treat them as two separate degrees that don't really interfere and im not sure if thats possible

U will end up with 2 seperate degrees. Potentially u can still apply for postgrad med @ UoM if u pick the right prereq subjects to satisfy the requirements, so go ask a person from the biomed faculty if u have enuff space to satisfy the subject requirements for UoM. This is a good alternative because u still have eng as back up however if u do biomed @ UoM because of its variety of postgrad courses besides med if u dont get high enuff to get into med u can do one of the other ones. But if u like engineering then go for monash biomed/eng to keep your options open.

This sounds exactly like me lol, biomed/eng @ monash is my 1st prefrence... engineering but keeping open post grad med
If you do sci/eng, you can't fit in the extra 2nd year subjecs that are required for uom's MD. as the course structure already requires overloading, you can't afford to fit in more. I've asked this at monash open day, uom open day, as well as my schools careers night. biomed/eng has incorporated all the subjects necessary for MD prerequisites.

Keep in mind there is always deakin pgrad, monash pgrad as well that have NO prerequisites other than GPA and GAMSAT

I also don't want to do biomed @ uom, cos then if you can't get do good enough in GAMSAT, and im like you in that i dont wanna do research, stuck in the middle with a biomed degree...

Yeah i'm like 99.95% sure, unless all the people i asked all lied to me and gave me the same answer :P

the only thing that im worried about doing biomed/eng is that... although prereqs are satisfied, eng is hard... thus your GPA won't be fantastic? and thats major deciding factor for acceptance into MD

yea im also worried about that but i guess if i find it too hard then i can drop the engineering part after first semester or first year and then transfer to melbourne biomed... i *think* first year uni results aren't weighted as much towards your gpa anyway

overall im still not sure

Also i think biomed/eng might go up? biomed's been going up slowly over the years and since melbourne no longer has ugrad eng... so im thinking like ~95

take that into consideration too lol, although since i was expecting ~90... it's given me lots of motivation to study and try harder
