Yeah, lots of people do. It can vary a fair bit. There are quite a few cafés on campus that students might work at - one of my friends works at one. Civic is only 10-15 mins walk away from the colleges, so lots of people work there at places ranging from hardware stores to cafés, restaurants, working at clubs, bars, pubs. Others even help out at law firms etc. (though mostly 3rd+ year law students). So plenty of opportunities.

Feel free to ask me about (advanced) mathematics.

Yeah. I've been working weekends at Bing Lee. It's out in Fyshwick so I need a car (or to wake up super early for the bus). This weekend is my last weekend at work, yay! I've also applied to be a campus tour guide for next year. Other on campus jobs include things like tutoring and being on the safety patrol (I'm pretty sure you have to be in 2nd year or above). I think you're paid if you're on the student union also. And, if you're staying in a college/hall there's usually some positions open which give you lower room fees like working at the bar, being a floor tutor, being an IT person, etc.

So I guess it would be easier to get a job there, than it is in Melbourne, because I'm absolutely hopeless at it! :(

Yeah, I think it's heaps easier to get a job in Canberra. Especially if you're around over the summer holidays.

I highly recommend it ;) I know of a couple of people actually (first year students this year) who transferred to ANU at the end of semester from UoM, because they didn't like the Melbourne model. I've met people who've transferred from Monash, Deakin etc too. Then again, I know people who transferred from ANU to UoM... I guess lots of people move around a bit.

So it's not as difficult as it seems? What average grades would you need to be accepted for a transfer through the UAC? :)

It depends what degree you want to transfer into, but generally I think it's a distinction average.
