You could probably get away with some of the slightly older Nokias then...which network are you going to be with on this phone? If not Telstra, you probably won't *need* HSDPA (very high speed mobile internet) - so we can step down a few models.

Have a look through there - Wikipedia can be a surprisingly good reference!

Don't you have an iPod mini? A phone without music capabilities is a lot cheaper. You should persuade your parents to give you the leftover cash, so that you learn about saving money :P

Most phones these days support it anyway, it's almost at the stage where you're trying to find a needle in a haystack (phones that don't play music). Of course, quality of implementation differs...

Optus most likely... um what does operating frequency mode mean? ... I don't know much about these sort of things lol ^_^

And yeah I do have an iPod ... well actually iPods lol, yeah I guess you're right I could do that but I really seem to like the Nokia N81, it's just so pretty lol (great way to choose a phone :P ).

Well, the biggest difference is the newer ones (HSDPA aka NextG, 3G) have faster data transfer rates - useful if you browse online a lot.

Optus is a hybrid 3G/2G network - you should check with them regarding data plans and whatnot if you want to surf (there is 3rd party software for the Symbian OS called fring which allows you to use MSN/Skype/AIM etc on the move using your mobile broadband).

The other thing is that higher frequencies == more battery usage.

How about giving us a list of the features you *require*? Messaging, calls, etc.

I don't need it to do much really lol, just as long as i can message, call, listen to music on it, has a decent battery life and it looks decent i'll be happy.
I'm sure you don't need to spend $1000 for a basic phone line that :P

Agreed.

Buy something suitable and stash the rest. I hear the Wii is cheap =P
