Breadth subjects take up 25% of your degree, with 75% of your degree actually focused on the name of your degree. I'm saying breadth subjects ought to be changed to take "up to 25%" (e.g: it becomes optional).

Yeah I agree with you that it should be optional. So, if it wasn't compulsory, what would the other 25% be replaced with?

Well, the rule with breadth subjects is that you cannot do subjects that could be counted towards the main part of your degree (e.g: Bachelor of Arts allows you to take Introductory Microeconomics, so therefore you cannot take that as breadth).

It means that 25% can be replaced with subjects in your degree, rather than outside of your degree (just for the sake of breadth)

Oh man..that would suck for a lot of people. Do you reckon breadth subjects would deter people from placing Melbourne as their first preference?

Yes, and I hope it does, to teach Melbourne a lesson for poor design of the Melbourne Model.

lol im also wondering whether monash (clayton) or melb uni wud b a better place to study commerce. i reckon that future employers might also b sceptical of the new generation degree thing for melb uni? coz i m >.< n the enrolment for melb uni dropped a lot this year too! haha im prob doin BCom (double degree mayb?) but dunno wat major yet XD

its normally 3 years and required ENTER is 90 though for a single degree...

but yea i agree its gay they make it compulsory to hav so many breadth subjects!

Uhh, I don't know if they set this guy up but:

http://www.bcom.unimelb.edu.au/about/bcom_video.html

and

http://www.futurestudents.unimelb.edu.au/courses/melbmodel/video.html

there's a KPMG partner, saying that they endorse the Melbourne Model because the University is making breadth subjects integral to the the degree which is refreshing for them.

On a second note, the video has been updated, so I'm not sure if it's in there or not.

I don't think that is correct.

http://www.ba.unimelb.edu.au/ugrad/breadth.html
"Breadth subjects NOT available for Bachelor of Arts students: Any subject that contributes to the core program of a Bachelor of Arts degree (even if expressly available as a breadth subject for students based in another discipline)."

On my reading, if Economics if not part of your "core program" for ur BA, then I think you would be able to do Intro Micro as breadth for BA. Check with university though.

If my reading is not correct, then i rkn everyone should slap Glyn Davis for creating such a stupid rule.

Hmm interesting. I come back from work and so much to read through lol.

I was looking a while ago into the possibility of taking up greek as a breadth subject. But I think you do it at another institution, not at Melbourne. Is that possible because I don't know if you can do that.
And does anyone have any idea what kinda ENTER you will need for a CSP @ Melb?
Did someone already answer this? Lol. I'm too tired.

Well last year it was 95.05 at the year before it was 95.85. But due to the new reforms and stuphs, I think in 2008 it will be around ~96, possibly 96.2

Yeh but 43 after scaling with subjects like specialist and methods which you seem to be good at is imo, easier then 43 after scaling in subjects like legal, accounting (as you may realise soon [soz] =[ ) and busman.
