So I'm looking at the course search feature, and I know that I take the first year of study then major in a field, then after that do I go straight to a masters or is it different? Does a PhD come after the masters or can you go straight into it when you graduate?

This is what I'm currently looking at: http://coursesearch.unimelb.edu.au/#/?PathId=1046&List=graduate

It's not a clear cut one year then major. It's a three year undergraduate course and the lines are a bit more fluid than that.

Anyway. If you want to do a PhD you need to have done some form of research previously - either a masters by research (not coursework) or an honours year. Then you're eligible for the PhD program.
